Tonneau Cover for truck
Many of you have experience with tonneau covers on their trucks. Would like opinions on your choices.
I have had a bak flip fibermax that I was happy with and am going to change trucks and looking for ideas.
Thanks,
Dave

Xtrac vinyl fabric snap on cover. Inexpensive and easily removable. I have a model that I can use with my tool box.

I had rigid fiberglass tonneaus on both of my previous trucks. I wanted something more amenable to hauling taller items so I got an Extang Solidfold. I like it, it is easily removable by two people and can be removed by one, but it does leak a little at the fold spots. I'm considering getting a full-size cab-high topper to give me a little more room.

We also have the Extang Solidfold, and we love it. As Al mentioned, it does leak a bit at the folds occasionally in heavy rain, but we like the extra security of the solid cover and our locking tailgate. I can remove it ok by myself, but seldom need to.

I have a "Truxedo" tonneau and the quality is great. I've been abusing it for three years and still looks new. Uses velcro instead of snaps along the sides, easy install.
Bought it from Amazon.

We have an Extang Trifecta and like it a lot. Very easy to install and remove with four latches. Trifold design allows easy access to gear.

I have an Extang Encore tri-fold. I like it in every respect except one -- any idiot with a coat hanger could break into it in 5 seconds.

I've used roll-ups for 15 years. The one on my 2000 F150 was still in good shape when I replaced the truck this year and I put the one from the link below on my new 2016. It may take a little longer to open up than the rigid ones but it's completely out of the way when rolled and absolutely dry.

My second and would have nothing else to keep my things safe. But they're pricey.

I had an Undercover Flex installed on my truck. The dealer said it is the best rated for hail resistance. It has drain tubes and we have had a lot of heavy snow and rain this spring. No leaks so far. It's a tri-fold, so I can open it up just about all the way and it has support arms that hold it open but don't allow it to touch and rub against the back window of the truck. I like the way is becomes secure when I close the tail gate. I, then, lock the tailgate.

I have the BakFlip and like being able to keep things out of site and somewhat secure with the tail gate lock. It does sometimes leak a little bit at the edges. I can easily remove it by pulling a couple pins. The rails stay in place so re-install is easy.

We thought about the security of various covers and careful calculated the difference between cutting into our soft cover with a knife, and prying or hammering into a hard cover was 5 seconds. If you want to slow them down, use a cable/chain and padlock for your equipment inside the bed.

Like Doug, I also have the Extang Trifecta. I considered a hard tonneau, but opted for this one for two reasons: (1) It's a lot lighter than the hard fiberglas ones, and (2) the Trifecta's bows arch up slightly, which provides just enough room for my Honda genset. The fiberglas ones are flat. Some even sit below the top of the side rails. Choose carefully in light of the height of what you put in the truck bed.

I bought the aluminum Retrax/Gatortraz from AutoCustoms. It is very solid and very easy to install. Permanently lubed roller bearings, manual roll up into a canister next to the cab. Solid locking, easy roll up. locks in any position, and looks quite good on the truck. Gatortrax is the "store brand" for AutoCustoms and is identical to Retrax, but $100 cheaper. I also bought a CargoGlide bed slide to make easier getting to everything in the truck bed.
I do get a little seepage of water around the Ford tail-gate step, and sides. Other than that it is pretty water tight. I would highly recommend it.

I've been using the Roll-N-Lock for many years and have had good luck with it. Many of my friends were so impressed with this tonneau cover, they bought one for their trucks and had me install it.

I just bought a 3 fold hard cover by LEER for our short bed. So far its waterproof and I really like it. Price was $795 and they installed it.
Of course I wouldn't expect it to be burglar proof, just keeping some things dry and out of the way. I keep the tailgate locked.
I just completed a 3500 mile road trip (sans trailer) and didn't really find that it improved gas mileage as they claim about tonneau covers, (though only 10% claimed) but maybe I should have slowed down more often. (eh who am I kidding, I drove through Nevada twice)
