Tonneau Cover for RAM2500 w/ RamBox

Does anyone have suggestions for a Tonneau Cover for RAM2500 w/ 6'4" Bed w/ RamBox? I remember reading some comments in a thread, but can't find it anymore. I am thinking of getting a retractable one and would appreciate your feedback if you have experience with retractable cover.

I don’t have experience with this but a google search showed a few options you might try. Good luck.

I have the tri-fold that came from RAM. I also have RAM Box and 6 foot bed. I like it but at times it can be hard to snap the clamps back in place after opening depending on the cargo in the bed. The cargo blocks the clamps handle making it hard to clamp. Also you can fold back the first two sections and run with them open for higher items like bikes but you still have about a foot and a half of cover when in the folded position up near the cab that remains limited by bed height due to the folded cover. That being said, the cover can be removed completely by one person if needed. You can also get a hard camper top and install the lift kit for the topper which will raise the entire camper top and be able to still access the RAM Box.

Like the BAKFlip MX4 Hard folding top

AShar, great question!

I searched different options vs. cost and settled on the BAKFlip MX4 hard folding top. They offer a version for your truck with the RAM Boxes: https://bakflip.com/p/bakflip-mx4-to...uck-2500/2019/

It’s secure, easy to use and makes the bed accessible but dry.

NOTE: I ordered mine from Amazon because I had gift cards from a work anniversary. It was too narrow (wrong listing) but Amazon arranged for UPS to pick it up from my house. I ended up ordering direct from BAKFlip and that one fit.

Good luck!
Jeff

Hey Jeff,
I second the rec on the Bakflip mx4. I have one on my 1500 w/RB and will be ordering one for my 2500 w/RB when it arrives. Gives you peace of mind for sure.

I did pick up the new GT last Friday. It is gorgeous! TV has been sitting at factory in Mexico for at least 3 weeks. 1500 pulled fine for the trip home but as we’ve discussed, not the best long-term solution.

Best regards

Tonneau Cover for RAM2500 w/ RamBox

I have Exceed on my Ram 1500, just installed several days ago, nice fit looks good w. A lock mechanism that can’t be jimmied easily. Tested through car wash and got about a cup of water in bed in the corner by windscreen. I like that it’s a hard cover with no seams to leak since it has a cover over them.

Bakflip. I bought my 2017 Ram 2500 used and it came with it. The only issue I have with it is that it's not watertight but that may be because it needs adjusting. Or maybe that's just the way it is. But it's secure and it works great.

We had a Bakflip on our Ram with Rambox. Great cover!

I have a retractable cover and love it. I have a Nissan Titan and I bought an after market cover that fits a number of different brand of trucks.

My experience is mainly positive. The cover is waterproof even at the carwash. It is easy to put a roof rack over the cover and store different items. I use a Yakima system to store my bikes and expect to have a kayak mount soon.

The negatives are minor. The cover didn't fit over the Titan boxes. The box where the cover retracts, takes a foot or so of bed space. The box doesn't go to the floor though so I can use the full length of the bed for long items and I when out with the Airstream, I can store seldom used items underneath.

I highly recommend the cover.

Take a look at the “Pick up Pack” sold by Highway Products. I just ordered one for my new GMC 3500

Another vote for the Bakflip MX4. I have a 1500 with Ramboxes. This is my second Bakflip and like it a lot.

Check out Diamondback bed covers. Put one on our 2017 1500 with ram box, worked well. Traded in the ‘17 and got ‘19 without rambox, wanted 6’2” bed. Works well on this Ram also. Only drawback is that they are pricey, but they are well made and extremely secure.

Retrac

While searching for my retractable for my 2019 1500 I noticed that RETRAC has them for RAM BOX set ups.
Unlike BACK FLIP it disappears completely into the 7" roll up box. Theres still plenty of room under the box for full bed length usage, but the drain tubes kind of get in the way. Other wise it works & looks great. Kind of pricey at $1200 on line but operates very easy & looks great.

Thanks, I checked out their website and loved it. I think Sean and Kristy of LoLoHo have the same on their truck. Unfortunately, they don't seem to have one available yet for 2019 RAM 2500 w/ new body style.

Tonneau Cover sources

BAKFlip MX4 works like a charm, easy to install, secure, tailgate closes without lifting cover, etc., etc.

Best price I found (about a month ago) was here:

I have a BAK Roll-X cover for my 2019 RAM 2500 with the Ram Boxes. ()

I had the BAK-Flip on my 1500 with Ram Boxes and decided to go with the roll up design with this truck. I like it a bit better than the flip up design as it doesn't require you to lift anything.

FWIW!

We have a Ram 2500 diesel (extended cab) with a retractable cover by Pace Edwards. When ordering our cover, we were careful to chose top rails with a GROOVE for mounting our Thule rack for bikes. New to kayaking last summer, ♥️ I began formulating a way to mount a kayak as well. When the cover is closed, I believe the bed storage height is 17 inches. The Pace Edwards box utilizes about six inches of the length of our bed. We love our system but it must be a bit of a unicorn because about once a week while on the road, folks stop us to gather info and snap photos. Good luck as you make your decision. There is so much helpful information here on the Air Forums.

UPDATE: I have the Bakflip G2. As I stated it came with the truck and had some leaks. I contacted BAK Customer Care and after sending them some pictures it was determined that the cover was too close to the cab so by loosening the elevator bolts and sliding the cover towards the tailgate I was able to adjust the cover for a better fit. Works great now. Best customer care experience I have had in a long time so something to keep in mind when trying to decide on a cover.
