Shocks for a 2004 Sierra 2500 HD ?

I am pulling a 25 foot 2004 Airstream Classic (GVWR 7300 lbs) with a 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 HD SLE and a Hensley hitch. As the pick-up gets older, when I go over bumps in the road I feel like I'm sometimes going over an ocean swell, however sway is not a problem. I can't remember the last time I replaced the shocks on the pick-up. Would replacing them help resolve the problem, and which shocks would you recommend ? Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

The factory shocks on my 2001 Chevrolet 2500HD were shot after a couple of years. I replaced them with Bilsteins and they are still working great after more than ten years. The replacement was a fairly simple DIY project. My front suspension is torsion bar, so the front shocks were easy, too. While you're down there, check the condition of the front jounce bumpers - my factory ones were torn up and new ones improved the ride a lot. Those are a single bolt installation - you just need to jack the front end up enough to get the parts in.

Hello again Boog,
It might have been ten years ago but was wondering if you had the model number for the Bilstein shocks ?
Thanks !

I got the 4600 series because my 2001 truck is at stock ride height. They make a 5100 series for lifted trucks. I think that the jounce bumpers were GM part # 15835666. You can verify if that’s the right part for your 2004 truck.

I had an 03 2500HD duramax that I first installed Bilsteins on and they were a nice improvement over stock but I ended up putting Rancho RS9000XL adjustable shocks on and they were a big improvement. I had a Lance camper on the truck and it turned an otherwise firm riding truck into jello, The Ranchos are adjustable so you can dial in the ride you want.
