RAM Online Payload Lookup - FIXED

For anyone looking for a RAM truck’s actual payload (door sticker) they finally fixed the online VIN lookup tool. Thanks to DevilDodge over on the HD RAM Forum for pointing this out.

This is great for anyone doing online research can enter the VIN of the truck in question and the tool will show the correct payload BEFORE you make a deal.
Click on “Look up My Vehicle”: https://www.ramtrucks.com/towing-guide.html

In the past the tool would show an exaggerated estimate. Many of us on the Airstream forum “got bit” by this only to find out later the door sticker was lower. In my case the online tool showed 1840 lbs. while the door sticker was 1220 lbs.

Side Note: Someone on the RAM Forum got FCA to buy back their HD 2500 because the online payload was not the actual door sticker. I wasn’t that lucky but did get FCA to offer the dealer some compensation to replace our 1500 for a 2500. https://5thgenrams.com/community/thr...te.4436/page-3

Jeff,

Thanks for the alert on this issue. And thanks for helping to push it along by your contact with FCA about your truck.

Bob

I appreciate it Bob!

Side Note: 2019 HD RAM owners missed out on the Trailer Tire Pressure Monitor System feature (was delayed). I posed a question to Andre over at TFL Trucks and he replied that they're going to answer the question on today's TFL Now YouTube streaming event in case you're interested.

Hi Andre and guys,

I follow your work and appreciate the "real world" testing. We bought a 2019 RAM 2500 Laramie to tow our 2019 Airstream Globetrotter trailer last July. At the time, RAM said the TTPMS was delayed and wouldn't be available until the Fall.

I see in your "what's new for 2020 HD RAM" post that the TTPMS will be available.

Question: For all the guys who bought a 2019 HD RAM, will FCA offer a kit to retrofit the TTPMS? Otherwise, I'll end up purchasing a 3rd party solution and have another monitor to hang on the dash. Also - but less important, will they offer a retrofit kit for the trailer camera (another feature announced in the 2019 HD RAM release).

Thanks in advance.
Jeff McCaffrey

Bummer! They didn’t get to my question on today’s live stream. Mr. Truck gets off on a tangent and they ran out of time...

I'll be following this one...I asked sales, service and parts at the local Ram dealer about the TTPMS discussed on page 91 of the owners manual (and saw the same thing on the RAMTRUCKS site) as you obviously have. Sales turned me on the video that shows the guy towing the four-horse fifth wheel where he states "up to four separate trailers can be stored", the Service Manager said "I think that's delayed" and I then queried the Parts Manager so inquire if he had a wheel sensor monitoring kit in his accessory book that would support the TTPMS; he said: "never heard of it". So I called Ram trucks...twice...and was told they would pass my question on to engineering and call me back. It's probably no surprise that I am still waiting for the call. The young lady who answered my second call felt obligated to read me the on-line file that I had already read to her from the "2019 User Guide". I'll bug them again and report anything new...but may bite on the TST system I saw at the Tampa RV show yesterday for $239. I believe it's on the Airstream on-line store for $297 with a list price of $339. Seems like a decent package and easy to monitor.

But adding yet another gagit in the cockpit leaves me looking for a periscope option to see above the clutter...and sense you were looking for the same option to integrate the camera on the Airstream with the on-board system in the Laramie - wouldn't that be nice - especially since I normally cruise with a dash cam too after years of living and driving in DC before moving home to St Pete after retiring...

Learning a lot from you guys and appreciate your posts...especially after feeling like I was a Flat Earth Society member after talking to a mechanic about DEF the other day.

Salvagediver, thanks for sharing what you’ve learned so far. Please update us if you hear back from RAM. I’m interested in hearing your thoughts on that external system you saw at the RV show. Sounds like a great price.

As you said it would be great to have it “in-dash” rather than another add-on but not the end of the world if not. I did see a post with the TTPMS kit from RAM Parts and read the instruction manual.

Sounds like you have to install their sensors in the Airstream wheels which means a trip to a tire shop or DIY with some of the tools that are available to depress the tire bead enough that you can get your fingers in to insert the TPMS valve stem.

Keep us informed on what you end up doing!

$239 would be a great price IF it comes with four sensors and a COLOR monitor.
I think I did pay $297 a few years ago, and it's been the best add-on I've ever done.

Don't expect perfection. I try to set mine at 65 psi using a combination of the Viair gauge and a nice hand gauge. My sensors will vary by 1-2 psi. However, you're looking for change outside the norm, like a leak.
