RAM EcoDiesel
Has anyone heard anything relative to the availability of the EcoDiesel for the RAM 1500? I know they were on hold for emissions issues but I have not heard any updates for a while.
A friend of mine was asking today and I said I would ask my forum friends.
Thanks!

While I have no direct knowledge, I'm guessing if you call a RAM salesman and verbally wave money around, if they push you to used or 2500-3500 it means they can't get new 1500 diesels yet.

The EcoDiesel engine in the RAM 1500 and Jeep Grand Cherokee is not currently available. Until the legal issues between FCA and the EPA are resolved, the engine is unlikely to be available in new vehicles. I believe FCA already wrote off the engine in all 2017 models and 2018 is still a question mark.

I suspect we will see it come October as a 2018 with revised emissions of some sort be it just software management or other.

Last I looked it was still on the Ram website as an engine option, but no mention of availability.
It's a wonderful engine for the Ram half-ton, we really like the economy and performance, everything about it. I believe Ford and GM have something similar in the works to be introduced in the near future. With the 8 and 10 speed transmissions these all will be very popular Airstream tow vehicles, based on our experience with one.

Agreed Doug it's a fantastic lil engine fuel efficient smooth quiet 333k on mine. Just read on Allpar forum/site that Ram has the ED line running in limited capacity to build some for something. I understand while they met & acquired certification they immediately got drug into court by a law firm so they are still on hold.
Ram is supposed to have a new 1500 for 2019 MY but I don't expect to have to wait for the ED until then as I heard because of the cert you should be able to get an 18. That said I have not seen that in print so.
Both my son & son in law want one. Used ones are somewhat hard to find and some dealers are trying to get top dollar for them. Many owners on the ED forum are hoping for some kind of big buy back or compensation like many VW owners got. I don't see that happening as what VW did was entirely different than Rams failure to report.

It's a good truck, though the payload capacity is a limiting factor for us. For now are kids are small and we pick light - one day that will end and we will need more "truck".

I think an agreement has been reached and they are certified for sale again as of this past week. Great mid-size Airstream tow vehicle and daily driver. The Ford and GM folks can look forward to something similar in the very near future. I think you will love them, based on our own experience.
These forums love guessing about payload and its effects. Towing and hauling are two different conditions with different effects, yet they give you a single generic payload number. Use the axle ratings and CAT scale to know what you are dealing with; with a good weight distribution setup and the Ram's two 3900 lb axles it does very well.
