I was just looking at the autowbrake to use along with my 2013 Porsche Cayenne Diesel and the 19' 2011 Victorinox (Flying Cloud) that we are about to take ownership of. The Cayenne has the factory hitch. Did you need adaptors on the car side of the system?

I tow my 67 Caravel with my V10 TDI (same car as your Porsche only a few more cylinders). If you have a 7 pin plug you are good to go. I had to add a junction box that I bought from eTrailer because trailer as old as ours did not have one. I mounted it under the frame. You can see the Autobrake box I mounted to the storage box. Once installed and plugged into the Porsche follow the instructions (press the button on the top) and you are done forever. We have driving about 4000 miles with it this past year and it's perfect. No additional brake peddle pressure required and I have had to do a few sudden stops. Never and issue. The VW has Brembo's in the front I imagine the Porsche does as well. Not sure about the Porsche but the VW has an active towing program that is built into the suspension which eliminates the any kind of additional sway bar connection. Its a button that requires activating on the consul in the car. The entire set up is brilliant

Porsche Cayenne, VW Touareg, Audi Q7 owners
Just spent this past Saturday at the Cleveland Auto Show. We were really interested in looking at SUV tow vehicles with a decent 3rd row. Our 2011 MDX is still looking and running great, but with 135k miles we need to start researching what’s out there. The surprises were that the vehicles we thought would be the front runners (Audi Q7, Volkswagen, and Mercedes) did not end up being our top choices. While we did not test drive (no Porsche Cayenne there[emoji26]) we were really impressed by the space and quality feel of the Volvo XC90. We really liked the tiered seating with each row going back setting progressively higher. Anybody out there towing with one, or any comparisons to the other SUV’s in this thread?
We also liked the BMW x7 and the Alfa Romeo Stelvio (5 seater). I can’t find the towing capacity of the Quadrifoglio and I would have to get some Pirelli racing tires for the Airstream [emoji23]

I would stay away from Volvo the reason being is that a Chinese company bought Volvo passenger cars however Volvo Trucks is still original. I would not trust for a car made in China
“ Volvo Car Group (Volvo Cars) is owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding (Geely Holding) of China. Volvo Cars formed part of the Swedish Volvo Group until 1999, when the company was bought by Ford Motor Company. In 2010, Volvo Cars was acquired by Geely Holding.”

Wait until 2022 and the XC90 will be built in Ridgeville S.C. just a few miles outside of Charleston S.C.

I looked at the Volvo XC90 (my daughter has one) but eliminated it because the tow rating is 4000 - 5000 lb.
Still trying to decide between the Mercedes GLE 450 and the BMW X5 x40i.

It was cool to find out it was #161 off the new Marysville plant. We saw the exact same model on display at the Henry Ford museum in Detroit.

I’ve had an XC90 since 2017 and love it. Until I bought my TV, a Ford F-250, I’ve only had Swedish cars. I do lament that their target customer base has switched over recent years from practical utilitarianism to luxury entitlement only because I feel like it has impacted the design of their vehicles and the way people drive them. Lots of ex-Beamer, Benz and Audi drivers I suspect. But I can’t blame them. The interior design of the new Volvo fleet is stunning in its Scandinavian simplicity.
Wouldn’t tow an Airstream with the Volvo though. I have on occasion towed a 5x8 cargo trailer with it. It was fine but I got the impression that the 4-cylinder twin turbo is up for much more than that (though it does get up and go when not towing). Maybe the T8 does better, not sure.

What do you think of the Audi Q8 or the BMW X7? We liked the width and feel of the Q8.

We didn't look at the Q8 because we didn't like the Fastback styling. Might need to add that to the list.
We considered the X7 (7500 lbs) but thought the X5 with 7200 lbs towing was close enough for our 5400 lb Tradewind, and I didn't want a third row of seats.
That said, I might just wait for the 2021 Tahoe. We weren't thinking of a Tahoe because my current Tahoe is hard for my wife to climb into. The new model with independent rear suspension is supposed to be about 4" closer to the ground.

Full disclosure. I am biased towards German cars. I owned only German cars in the past. I tested XC90. It looks nice. And that's it. This is not the same level of refinement as German cars. Just read objective tests. If your requirement is decent 3rd row, your shortlist is really short: BMW X7, MB GLS, Audi Q7 (if you digest the design).

I took my wife’s Audi A3 in for service last year. I suppose I am always dreaming of a “fun to drive TV” for our 66 Tradewind, besides the Porsche Cayenne. The Q7 would work with a payload of 1,323 lbs but it doesn’t have enough power to be my fun car.
I figured the Q8 might have a higher payload, but nope at just 1,102 lbs.
The Audi that I would really want would be the SQ5 but that was a distant third at 1,058 lbs. Heck, my non TV VW Golf has a payload of 1,006 lbs. Back to dreaming about the Porsche Cayenne.

The Q7 with the 3.0T is a great platform. If you want more kick, a simple chip upgrade will boost the power significantly. Check out the difference at a top tuner, goapr.com.
My big issue is the payloads. My VW Atlas has just shy of 1500 pounds, which is plenty for my 22’ Sport and family/gear. It’s unfortunate that the Q7 is below that number.

My GLS has 1245 lbs. payload with 7 passenger seating. I saw a 6 passenger at 1301 lbs. payload.

Our MDX payload is 1150. With just the two of us it’s fine but we have taken short trips (40 miles) with 6 adults total (wife and kids are all small between 95-130 lbs). But at 750 lbs or so towing a travel trailer I think we are a bit overloaded. With our tongue weightAnd weight distribution we are probably looking at 1600lbs. Best recommendations other than a truck or a van?

The Levante has a payload of 1467 lbs and a towing capacity of 5952 lbs. I have a dealer nearby but I didn't care for the Trident in the grill.
