Yeah, that GM truck really sucks according to some guy who writes for a living, has never held a screwdriver and evaluated the truck by carrying a Christmas tree and bumping a run with an Ecoboost truck on the way to Starbucks.

I almost choked on my coffee when I read this. The tiny ecoboost is cool but it is better suited to my wife’s Escape than any truck. We trade in the Escape every two years with good reason.

The most ridiculous thing these days is pickup trucks with engines that shut off at stoplights.

Or to a race car with wins at LeMans, Daytona, and Sebring. That includes endurance races. Pumping out 647 hp and 550 lb-ft or torque. Based on the stock block and heads. Pretty good for a “tiny” engine.

3/4 and 1 ton trucks are the last bastion of the naturally aspirated gasoline engine. Both lighter duty, and heavier duty, trucks are turbocharged. It will come in time.

I need my engine to last for the long haul. The only substitute for cubic inches is rectangular dollars.

The reviews there were a bit snarky, perhaps. I like the look of the GMC Sierra, and I'm actually fond of the look of the GMC Yukon, the shorter Suburban clone.

But, I have to say, in shopping for a new tow, I have been disappointed a bit in the GMC/Chevy offerings (currently driving a 14-year-old Suburban, which has been relentlessly reliable and a very hand vehicle).

The technology in GM's rigs is not keeping pace with Ford's.

I don't like the interiors of the Ford trucks; prefer the GM or, better, the Nissan Titan layouts. But, I think I want the backup camera ala Ford's hitch-up helper. The GMs I tested didn't have it. Other tech, too, seems missing.

That's got to be hurting GM sales.

it was a comment on the capability of the basic engine structure, not an application recommendation. Detune it by 300 hp, tune it for more low end torque, and it is a great fit for a towing application.

They’ve been out coming on ten years now. No longer new. When will we have a sense of how they do over that ten year cycle you reference?

The best substitute for displacement is forced induction. A technology that has been in widespread use for over 70 years. Over the road trucks went to forced induction over larger displacements decades ago, and those engines are widely held up as examples of lasting for the long haul.

Agreed. At least they are attempting a comeback with their new turbo four in the 1500. Early reports are that the 2.7 turbo 4 is not as economical as Ford’s 2.7 twin turbo V6, but competition will be good for both of them.

Well, I am still pulling with my 1999 F250 7.3 Turbo with 250,000 on it. It is the heavy duty with 6 speed standard. No rust on it at all and still mostly original(ball joints, exhaust, clutch etc) Love this work horse. Pulls our 34`Airstream like a dream, 18-19mpg. 28 on the highway solo.

We are Ford Truck people ... as recently as May 2018 when we owned a 2018 F350 Platinum long bed for two weeks.

Last week we purchased a new long bed 3500HD crew 4x

We took off on a 6k R/T (to Big Bend NP Texas) journey and while I admit, some of the technology isn’t keeping current with Ford (no rear climate for the dogs, no rear heated seats for the dogs, no extended sunroof...for the dogs) I really LOVE the fact this proven platform (last year of Gen 3) is refined, tested and proven from the extensive fleet miles since 2015,. We’ve felt remarkably comfortable for what has been 3k miles in seven days towing a 2019 Globetrotter.

Truth be told, if the Ford F-350 Plat was the same price, we’d buy a Ford. Sticker on our Ford was 82k, sticker on the Denali long bed one-ton was $72k.

Out the door we were $58,600 and that just makes me giggle. A diesel one-ton 4x4 built on a proven platform with an Allison transmission and loaded with GREAT SEATS and every option we need (heated steering wheel, heated and cooled seats etc). Sure the dogs prefer the Ford but for my value equation to us considering the Ford (remember we are FORD PEOPLE) doesn’t add up. With the savings of $12-$14k I can buy another motorcycle !!!

I’m glad to have this truck - it’s dedicated to doing only one chore ... pulling an airstream trailer. That’s all it does and it performs this task beautifully.

Your mileage may vary, but personally I’m glad this old-tech option exists in the market.

Oh, and consistent with “old technology” we also couldn’t resist a 1/2 ton 2018 loaded SLT (2 months ago) at $43k. After two ecoboost Platinum F150’s (2011,2016) I couldn’t resist this delightful normally aspirated old-technology of this 1/2 ton GMC truck for the money. I reasoned, in October, that I’d save $10k +/- compared to the Ford and could buy another motorcycle )) with the savings. Or give the truck to one of my kids next year..

As always, YMMV of course.

Almost twice the horsepower of my 3500 GMC Denali diesel, and mind-boggling torque. If you want technology, here it is. I wrote them a note suggesting more payload for towing, but it will tow 11,000 pounds with great off-road abilities.

The trucks built in Mexico are shipped across the border on trucks and trains. Immigration restrictions will not have any effect on product being shipped across borders.

When a boarder is CLOSED nothing crosses it. Our family lost a house in Germany when the boarder was closed by the Nazis, they up and left it behind right before the closure. The house was returned to us in the 90's when the wall was taken down. Now just say goodbye to GMC for now. I bet the auto makers lobbyists are freaking out.

Why, oh why do people think that they have saved money when a manufacturer discounts or offers an incentive to buy a vehicle.....these "offers", "incentives", or "discounts" along with the cost of "0% financing have already been factored into the MSRP of the vehicle, especially full size trucks. Do you think it cost Ford anywhere close to $85,000 to build that truck, when you can buy essentially the very same truck in a work truck trim for just over $25,000.

The manufacturers of large trucks and SUV's are pocketing minimum $5,000 - $15,000 in clear profit for each vehicle....after incentives.

You didn't save anything; you paid what the market rate for that truck was on that peticular day; which was still too much IMHO. I wouldn't be giggling, not at all.
