Old School Towing
Howdy,
I wanted to share my old rig set up. 1965 International D-1300 one ton 4X4 and 1968 Airstream Tradewind. Truck was a brush fire truck and has 16,946 original miles. 4.88 gear ratio, factory optional heavy duty suspension, heavy duty cooling and 304 V8. It has an adjustable hitch on it so you can see I need to raise it in the pic....

Perfect combination of old school truck and old school Airstream. Looks great, and I'd keep the logos on the truck doors if you can. Great theme!
Might have to disable the bubble gum machine and siren to conform with California law, unfortunately. But leave them on there for effect...

Yup, the lights and siren are all functional.
The siren actually has 8 different modes plus a PA system. I use the traffic horn on it and scare the hell out of cyclists who run stop signs...lol

Nice looking rig, was the International 304 the same as the 304 American Motors used in some of their cars and Jeeps?
I need a really loud horn to get the texters moving when the light is green and everyone has left except the texter in front of me. It is unbelievable how often this happens.

Great looking setup! Back when I was an Apprentice Mechanic, our place had a couple customers with those International ( "Cornbinder" )pickups. I always liked the styling, and learned to set timing on #8 cylinder...

Look up "Train Horn". You can just about break their window glass with one of those setups...

Thanks. The International and AMC engines are completely different. The International is a low rev, high torque, heavy, truck designed engine.

I am not an expert on this vintage, but in the 1970’s International used AMC in-line sixes, and International supplied the 304 and another V-8; I think it was a 343 to AMC. When I owned a 1973 International 1110 with a 258 6 cylinder., I bought engine parts from the local AMC dealer, because they were cheaper than sourcing them through I-H.

IH in the days of American iron ruling the roads.
Excellent.
Safe travels.

That brush fire truck may come in handy in CA. Needs a water tank, pump and hoses to go camping these days!

This is from International Parts America, it clears up the confusion...
The amc 304 and the IH 304 are two different engines. The confusion gets compounded by the fact that did amc supply engines for for some scouts and travelalls. Here's the breakdown:
4 cylinder engines (152/196) were built by IH.
Early 6 cylinder engines (blue diamond, red diamond, etc) were also IH.
Later 6 cylinder engines (Scout iis) had amcs (same as the jeeps of the era).
266, 304, 345, and 392 v8s were all IH sourced engines.
Finally, amc provided 401 v8s for a short time as an option in full size platforms.
Then there's the transmission conversation. The later automatics were sourced from chrysler. They were tf727s built to IH specs with IH-specific bell housings. Contrary to popular rumors, one cannot simply drop a mopar engine into a Scout with a 727. One would have to use the correct mopar 727 and then the proper mopar/IH tail housing to mate to the xfr case.

Good job on your rig! I love those old IH’s. The epitome of “built like a tank.”
From the same era, I have a 1966 IH Cub Cadet model 123..... the first hydrostatic garden tractor IH made. I keep it for the same reason.... “they don’t make them like that anymore!”
