New TV has anybody tried the hybrid pickups?
We have a 23 foot International CD which is about 10 years old. The trailer is in great shape because we have maintained it meticulously. We rarely camp in commercial sites as we mostly use the camper to stay in fabulous places with little to no accommodation nearby. We mostly favor National Parks, National Monuments and the like.
We do carry generators but rarely use them because of the noise and hassle, and have added a movable solar panel, so we can camp in the shade and track the sun. One of the limitations of our rig, from the get-go has been the 2 batteries, something that has not seem to have changed with AS design over the decades as they load up the rigs with ever more more power hungry gadgets - an all electric refrigerator would be a deal breaker for me. We can go 1 week without external power or water, but would like to occasionally run the furnace a little when camping at higher altitudes in the shoulder season. We have never run the AC on generators, we just run a fantastic fan and if the weather is going to be terribly hot we choose to camp elsewhere, that is the advantage of wheels.
I have been reading about hybrid Pickups, Fords I believe that allow you to run power tools from the truck battery (the big battery, not the starter battery for the gasoline engine). Has anyone used one and towed with it? How do they handle? how do you like it...?
This seems like a great way to improve the limited battery situation on the AS as the battery would charge up in the day when we are driving around and then in the evening if we plugged in we could have a little extra power without adding batteries or hauling out the generators.
Orr current RAM hemi is 12 years old but only has 60,000 miles on it and runs great. It gives great towing even on hills but we are lucky to get 11MPG towing.
The idea of better milage and a helpful battery boost sounds wonderful - we might even be able to dispense with hauling to Honda generators around. We also like the idea of some of the safety features that we have got used to on the car like the electronic blind spot monitors etc, which would be nice to have on a truck.
I'm not looking to go full electric, but the hybrids are intriguing.
