By now hopefully everyone has seen the new commercial for the redone Toyota Sequoia and the even better looking Airstream it is towing. The Airstream is showcased throughout the whole commercial as the family is off camping (boondocking even). The only question is with a new airstream in tow why would the kids want to sleep in the back of the Toyota?

Toyota Hype?

I couldn't quite make out the Airstream model. Could anybody else? It looks like a mid length AS. My question is, is the Sequoia up to the task? I don't know anything about the TV but I doubt it.

We thought the parents had figured out a "good thing." (wink, wink)

It was a cool ad...

At first I thought it was an Airstream ad! I thought how cool it was they were portaying a "lifestyle" than a rugged suv. I think the model was a International CCD 28'.

GM used to always put the Airstreams in Suburban brochures, especially in teh 3/4 ton section of the brochure.

25' Fb..

I saw the ad again, the model it is towing is a 25' Front Bedroom model. Looks like a Safari SE.

I also noticed that the Airstream was in nearly every shot during the commercial. That's pretty cool.

Wayne, I was thinking the same thing. Once I saw the airstream, everything else faded to the background! look at his site and you can see a good shot of the Airstream Toyota Sequoia - 2008 Pictures & Photo Gallery 2nd picture on bottom row! How Cool!

My brother-in-law has a 2003 Sequoia and tows a 1989 25' Excella. The Sequoia he has is rated to tow up to 6,500 lbs and his trailer loaded is about 6,000 lbs. We have traveled with him (and his family) a number of times and he is pretty happy with the handling/sway/gas mileage although I know he's a little underpowered in the mountains. But to answer your question, considering that the tow rating of the new Sequoia is 10,000 lbs I believe it's up to the task.

Hi Luckyducks. The Sequoia as a converted Tundra has a heavier curb weight than the Tundra. The elongated cab, seats and windows weigh more than a pickup box. Compared to Tundra this lessens its ability to bear passenger + tongue loads in this range. My 2006 25' FB SE is virtually identical to the 2008 in the ad and has slightly more tongue weight than an '89 25' Excella. Either way the numbers add up only if a minimum human load is carried in the tow vehicle. No fun that way. Compromising emergency maneuverability/braking & TV durability by overloading is the alternative. See http://www.airforums.com/forums/f206...ite-38937.html.

Airstream...A Japanese Legend???

This commercial truly breaks my heart. Call me old-fashioned, but I'm a "Buy American" American through and through. I can't believe Airstream calls themselves an "American Legend" then sells out to a Japanese manufacturer.

It also upsets me that Toyota uses this commercial to lay claim to activities that are iconically American. Those activities belong to us. We have fought and died time and time again for the right to engage in all of the pass-times that make up "The American Dream".

I think Wally Byam and all the dead veterans of Pearl Harbor are probably rolling over in their graves.

I don't usually get this opinionated and I hope I haven't angered anyone with this post, but I personally saw the commercial as an insult.

Ben, one of the great things about this forum is the diversity of its members and the breadth of ideas that are exchanged in the threads. Your post made me stop and consider that ad from a different perspective, and yes, I see the point you have made. I respect your immediate take on this item; you see clearly in red, white, and blue whereas I was seeing the fun and excitement in the camping. Good for you for making me take a step back and really think about what I'm viewing. ~G

At least the Toyota is MADE IN THE USA! I know the big 3 1/2 tons are all made in Mexico and Canada.

Bull****! GM has three assembly plants that make the half ton, three quarter ton, and the one ton pickups in the USA, Flint MI, Pontiac MI, and Fort Wayne IN. Yes there is a plant in Oshawa Canada that produces the 1/2 ton and the Silao Mexico plant also produces pickups.

You are right not ALL are made in MEHICO but most are.. Check your build plate and see if it is. My point was Toyota is creating new jobs and GM/Ford are now making trucks in Mehico. MI now has the highest un-employment in the US.

Again I will call you on that. GM makes very few pickups in Mexico. All HD GM pickups (100%) are built in the US and over 60% of the light duty pickups are built in the US and most of the rest are then built in the Oshawa Ontario plant. My HD was built in Flint, Michigan.

Ours too, now that I think about it. I'd done some testing on Caddy's in Flint a dozen years ago, and was kind of surprised to see the "Made in Flint, MI" sticker on the truck.
Not a bad surprised.

I think Dodge has a plant in St Louis, and another in Mexico,
And aren't most of the Ford trucks are from Louisville, Minneapolis, or somewhere else in either the Great Lakes or upper midwest? They made Focii in Mexico, but I wouldn't tow much with one.

We used to own a Toyota. That's about all I care to say about it.
