Suggest you do a test drive before making the big TV investment. And so many choices,,,,,,,2 door, crew cab, quad cab. Try your local Enterprise or Hertz car rental, they usually have pickups and good 2 day weekend rental rates. Try a Dodge, Ford and Chevy...,,,,,even a Nissan if they have one. Drive to the store, on the interstate and around town. Figure out what size and style truck you want before commitment.

Hitch lock
What do you recommend to lock the hitch when you’re away from your Airstream

I chose the f150 ecoboost due to its safety and gas mileage. If you go this route make sure to check the door sticker that’s yellow, it should read a capacity north of 1600 lbs. spec with max tow and heavy duty payload. I didn’t get the heavy duty payload and I’m still at @1759 capacity.
Jay Leno asks the ceo of airstream if an f250 is necessary in this video it’s worth a watch.

Whatever you do, realize that not all '1500 series trucks are the same, and not designed for the max towing capable of that truck.
You usually need a feature package that is specific to that brand.

We use this one and are very happy with it. However, if someone is determined to steal your airstream, they will. You need to just make it as inconvenient or difficult as possible, increasing the chance they will move on to easier pickings.

Hi Squirestrhn,
Sent you a private message yesterday morning, with an option to consider.

I point this out because you need to pay attention to the cargo capacity of the vehicle you choose. Depending on options, this is different for every vehicle, so pay attention to the cargo capacity sticker on the specific vehicle you are looking at.
When you add up the weight of the trailer tongue, the weight distributing hitch, driver, passengers and gear you stow in the cab or the box (in the case of a truck), you need to make sure that you are not exceeding the cargo capacity of your vehicle. Most, if not all 1/2 ton trucks will be maxed out, or close to. That may not be an issue for you.
If you are traveling in an area that has hills, or mountains, you will appreciate the power of a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel going up and the larger brakes and engine brake when going down, as well as a cushion in load carrying capacity.
Properly rigged, even a mid size SUV like a Acura MDX will do the job. The tradeoff with smaller vehicles and trucks is the lack of cargo carrying capacity. The upside is a very comfortable vehicle when not towing.
I towed our 27 with our Cayenne for many thousands of comfortable miles, but it is always on the edge of it cargo capacity with just the GW and I and not much more in the cab. We also tow the 27 with an '18 Denali HD Duramax. With it I can bring along the BBQ, lawn chairs, generator, etc., and I have no worries about staying within capacities. All these things stay home when towing with the Cayenne. I can just set the cruise at 65 and that is where it will stay, up and down the steepest grades. All I do is steer and enjoy the scenery.
Good luck with whatever you decide, you are about to embark on a great adventure!

Right on! Thanks Warden.

I looked at the payload sticker of a Denali HD Duramax just the other day and was surprised that it was only 300 lbs more than my 1500 SLT w/ 6.2 L gas and Max Tow Package. Those items you listed ride in my Airstream until we reach our destination.

Usually on the driver’s door sill below the door latch. 🤪

It’s the yellow sticker on the drivers door jam, in the case of that dump truck it should be 40000 lbs

That's not much. I decided to upgrade to the Cat 797. The door sticker says not to exceed a payload of 800,000 lbs, but I'm not sure if that includes the weight of the driver. http://www.airforums.com/forums/atta...4&d=1556464219
