I was told by my tire guy that a tire worn to one eighth of an inch should not be driven in the wet regardless if it is to the indicators or not. This has been my experience also.

My 18 inch Transforce ATs were getting very sketchy in the wet at only 10K miles. The Michelin LT Defenders were like day and night. $1280 at Canadian Tire w/o discount in August.

If my math is right, that's about 3mm. Yeah, I'd be replacing them before that.

My tire gauge has a mark at min th of 1.6mm, but I'd not want to drive on tires that thin.

I got over 75,000 miles out my original Michelin Defender 17"s on my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 with Cummins 5.9. I swapped them for a new set of Michelin Load Range E a couple of months ago. Why mess with a good thing?

Need tires for '16 Dodge Ram 2500

My dodge is 2wd but I've had great luck with The Michelin LTX/Defenders. Just installed the 3rd set at 200k miles.

By the way, Michelin owns and manufactures B.F. Goodrich tires

I forgot to mention I have the 20" wheels too. The Goodyear silent armors do come in this size.

I changed tires early, after 30k miles, because I was having to have them road force balanced every 5k miles and they were starting to wear unevenly. Lots of people on the Cummins forum with the same experience.

I had the same experience. Hated the Firestones. They slid all over the place in the wet. Love the Michelins.

Thanks for the tip. I searched the ramforum and didn't see a lot of tire threads. Should have thought of the Cummins forum. I might join that.

Oh, I thought of a side question, related to the Ram with the Cummins specifically.

Relative to the weight of the 6.7 l engine, do ya'll recommend a more frequent tire rotation schedule to even wear? I guess I am wondeirng if the forward weight bias, relative to the gas option, would wear the fronts more.

So far, my sample of one has not shown this, but I wonder. I rotated front to back at the first OCI (maybe 17K.). I checked all four tires yesterday (25k miles on the truck) and I'm about 8 possibly 9mm all the way around.

I think a more frequent rotation schedule might be prudent, but not because of engine weight. I think the significantly higher torque coming out on the rear tires is going to have a higher effect on wear.

Ah, this could be true. I don't exactly tromp on the gas much anymore. But I could see where in turns etc. the slip angle induced by the turn might cause shear in the rear tread blocks. Especially under load.

I tow a 30' FC, so my tongue weight might be +600 lbs or more, plus the static Trailer weight, after cranking the Propride W/D jacks to 6". I dunno what that adds up to, I do need to get to a CAT scale some time lol.

Thanks, hadn't thought of more rear wear. Maybe the front weight of the Cummins cancels that out.

My experience has been the torque of the engine has worn the rear tires quicker. It is very important to keep the air pressure at the correct amount to support the engine weight so the truck drives straight down the road.
On previous Michelins and now the Firestones both need at least 65 psi in the front to drive straight down the road. My truck is older than yours and has an option of "light load" for the TPMS system. I run less psi in the winter when generally using the truck for commuting.

I have a 2011 Dodge 2500, we pull our 30 ft. Classic S/O with it. It is two wheel drive, it came with Michelin tires from the factory.
I installed Centramatic balancers when it was new. I just replaced the tires because of age. They had 76,000 miles on them. More than half those miles were pulling the trailer. I never rotate my tires.
No cupping of the tread on any of the tires. They were nice and flat completely across the surface of the tire.
I am a firm believer in Centramatic balancers. I have them on the trailer. On my antique semi tractor and on the front wheels of our farm semis. They really do make a difference.
That is my experience, your mileage and experience may vary.

I like those.

Is there any concern in pulling a trailer out of a muddy / wet campground with those highway treads?

I've been using the M/S version as the A/S lacks traction. That said, I'll be changing to Bridgestone Duravis 700 commercial traction on the rear axle to increase grip. The Duravis line lasts easily longer than LTX.

Thank you sir, that was what I was asking.

I used the M/S vs. the A/S on my old SOB Class B, had great traction in muddy / wet RV park's.

I've gotten stuck on flat grass, unloaded and not towing. With the tongue weight of the trailer I've never had a problem.

You should have seen my buddy laughing when a Honda 4 wheeler easily pulled me off the grass.

+1 I'm on my second set. I got rid of the tires that came on my Ram when it was new because A/S tires just don't cut it in Eastern WA during the winter. I buy new tires at about 4/32", tires are cheap, sheet metal and medical bills are expensive.

I've seen too many bad things happen to good people.
