I have a 2017 22FB that I tow with a 2015 Ford Explorer with the 3.5 Ecoboost. It pulls beautifully, however, my confidence in the Ecoboost has been shattered by three significant component failures between 56,000 and 64,000 miles. At 56,000 miles, the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) started leaking lubricant. The dealer replaced it under warranty and the Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) failed on my way home from the dealer (another story). This was not covered by the warranty and cost me $1500. Three weeks ago, at 64,000 miles, the turbocharger impeller shaft sheared. $1700 out of pocket for a new turbo. No, unfortunately, I did not buy the extended warranty. The vehicle has been regularly serviced IAW the manufacturers recommendations and is my wife's daily driver. It is no way abused. We have pulled the camper 6 times, no more than 180 miles from home. I now want to trade the Explorer and am considering a full size Toyota because of their reliability and the lowest 10 year maintenance costs of ALL makes. We absolutely love the Explorer for its comfort and performance, but I can't live with such poor reliability.

Diesel

Tex
Diesels don't get 50% more mileage then gas for sure. And for the average RVer one would never put on the mile required to pay back up cost.
I went back to gas from Diesel and I get only about a mile a gallon less.
My F150 4x4 tows my 28 foot FC just great with all the supplies.

My real world experience with Mercedes diesel cars and SUVs (for eighteen years) that I own in both the UK and the USA are they get at least 30% better milage than the Mercedes premium gas guzzling engines of the same displacement. Since premium gas and diesel vie back and forth for most expensive on any given day, I prefer the better range of the diesels with the same sized fuel tank.

I use my 2007 Mercedes exes ML320 CDI v6 3.0L turbo diesel to tow our 2015 23D International Serenity and get 16.5 mpg when towing on the level and enjoy engine braking on descents due to the much higher compression inherent in all diesel engines.

The 2017 Audi Q7 passed inspection of the hitch. They removed the bumper and removed the hitch, then reassembled to correct torque. No fractures and mechanic didn’t see any signs of bolts moving. He is checking to see if he finds any info on reinforcing the hitch. I passed on the info from your post.
At 23000 miles I’m down to 5/32 on tire depth, was told the Q7 goes through tires quickly.
