It isn't a fair comparison IMO. The Duramax likely makes that torque somewhere around 1600 rpm. The Rivian starts out with it from rest.
Our real world experience has been that once you get used to the power delivery of an EV, it is very difficult to be satisfied with the driving experience of an internal combustion engine vehicle.

My accountant just bought a Tesla and he said the date IRS uses is the date the dealer submits the required forms to the IRS that the sale has been completed and the customer took possession of the vehicle. IRIS will verify the VIN at the state DMV has been registered.
Here is what it says in the link below.
The sale qualifies only if:
You buy the vehicle new
The seller reports required information to you at the time of sale and to the IRS.
Sellers are required to report your name and taxpayer identification number to the IRS for you to be eligible to claim the credit.

If you haven’t watched it, you might enjoy "Long Way Up" which reunites Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, this time riding electric Harley Davidson motorcycles from Patagonia to California and supported by a road crew driving a Rivian pickup.
At one point they charge the Rivian by towing it behind a tractor trailer truck. So, Vivian still might have a role.

Thank you for this information. In looking through the new IRS criteria, I still qualify for the tax rebate. We have always used a CPA to do our taxes, so we will leave up to him.

Thanks for the tip. I have watched some of his trip. What an adventure.

Not to continue down this unrelated path, but if you ordered a new vehicle rather than walk in and buy a vehicle from dealer stock, the dates matter more than the in service date

This is not really an unrelated path as it is a significant part of the EV purchase process. In our case, we placed our original Rivian $1,000 deposit on November 28, 2018. We signed a binding contract with Rivian on August 10, 2022. I guess that we will see what this means for us.

I've owned bmw i3 and i4s since 2013 and love them, they save me thousands of $$$$ each year and can be fun. BUT my m3, m5, and 500hp f150 are far more fun to drive. multiple speed transmission and consistent predictable braking are essential elements to how you enter and exist a corner and corner speed is the determining factor to fast laps and fun driving, fast.
Now to go completely off topic and into the weeds. compare 2004 Formula 1 v10 lap times to the current hybrid "power unit" times. it took years of regulation changes and vehicle reconfigurations to finally surpass old technology. Formula 1 WAS the pinnacle of high performance technological limits, and a joy to watch and hear. Now it is almost a mere side show, that would be Formula E.
ICE (internal combustion engine) will be the king of fun for most drivers of high performance vehicles for years to come, IMHO
Hitting "launch control" and flicking through preset shift points and mashing brakes with control systems will never replace three pedal driving and shifting gears by sound and feel, feathering gas and brakes in and out of a corner based on the feel of rear wheel grip.
I ride fast motorcycles too.

I completed my taxes and after entering your vin, make and model, the two dates are, purchase date and in service date. When i entered my purchase date (when i agreed to buy) as prior to August 16, 2022 and my in service date after August 17, 2022, it was accepted and i secured the full $7500 credit

The new restrictions on MSRP and American made parts doesn’t take effect until April 18, 2023.

Hopefully, this will work for me also.

Yah. It’s dependant on the profile and weight of the trailer. There is a Rivian not far from us that tows a T@B 400 like ours and he sees about a 35 percent range loss. Tear drops are a good fit for EV tow vehicles. We tow ours with a model Y. We see closer to 50 percent loss but the profile of our car doesn’t block much air so the trailer takes it all.
Cheers.

The other important issue is the speed at which you're towing. This can make a big difference. The report I saw was based on towing a cargo trailer at 65 mph.

Yah for sure. Regardless of fuel speed is a huge factor. Ours is a pretty short wheelbase combo so we hang out around 90 kph a lot. Sometimes a little faster or slower depending on conditions. The reality is for us up here this is pretty much the speed limit anyway.
