There are a few of us. Triaxle Dormobile, real cool.

Currently in the stable, 73 Series 111 NAS 88, 84 Series 111 88 RHD in the middle of ground up rebuild, 94 NAS D90, and the wife's 2011 RR HSE. Worst nightmare 99 P38. Hopefully no more for awhile, running out of space..............

Opps forgot the 2000 DISCO 11. Great, now it will be hurt and not start until it feels like.

I often forget about my 2000 Discovery Series II. Except for the time it got stuck trying to enter our paved driveway with 1” of snow on the ground. That was due to the solid front axle, and the camber of the driveway ramp. The III got IFS, and the I had a differential lock. The II got neither. It also wouldn’t shift into second in cold weather due to balky synchros. The dealer said they all do that, just drive it a bit in first and warm the fluid. Then there were the tail lights. Which worked sometimes, but never for long. And the HVAC fan, which was noisy, but which the dealer pointed out would require a major disassembly process to rectify.

But it never failed to start (TD5). So there is always that.

Can not say we have had issue w/the DISCO. Ours is a gasser and auto. Just need to pay attention to her and she plugs away. The dogs love it. She does have a charm in a truck way. The trick to not getting stuck is pedal to the metal and hopefully nothing falls off..............

I am waiting for a new Disco 5 Si6 340 HP that should be arriving at the end of this month. Upgrading from a Ford Flex and being my first LR you can imagine how anxious I am.
Currently, we tow a 2016 19ft FC with a Ford Flex that has a towing capacity of 4500 lb and the car's GVWR is exactly that and max tongue weight is 450, using a Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control. Although most people on this forum would consider us crazy, the truth is that the setup has been reliable and we never had any sway or other problems after 20+ weekend (always on the flats of South Florida). As a matter of fact, a friend lent me once a GMC Sierra 1500 and towing without the Blue Ox we had several sway issues from Miami to Tampa.
So now with a car that is rated for 8200 Lb we are thinking on upgrading to a 25ft that has a GVWR of 7300, but the problem is that we see that tongue weight of the 25 is 835 while the maximum recommended by LR is only 771 but for every pound above 331 lbs added to the trailer tongue weight, the same weight must be removed from the vehicle's payload.
It seems like the Discos tongue and towing maximum capacities are not balanced. Are we asking too much out of the Disco?

You will probably be fine. I would relocate batteries under the bed, maybe with lithiums as I did, and save some tongue weight. Payload will be limited. I just got back from 4000 mile trip (CA to Canada and back) and didn't have any issues. Does it move around under certain conditions? yes. but still pretty stable, considering I have been up/down 9% grades, 40mph gusts, blasting by semis, have 33" tires and a roof rack

Good idea changing the batteries to the rear and going lithium, how much weight do you save with that. The other option we have thought of is using only one smaller gas tank, since we only use it for cooking because we never bondook and only use it in Florida, after over 20 weekend or long weekend trips, we haven't yet finished the original gas...
Anyhow, it is always nice to learn from REAL experiences of others and not only the theoretical HD club ...

I upgraded from a 22 Bambi Sport to the new Globetrotter. Not only did I need to upgrade to a different weight distribution system, but the Land Rover hitch receiver, the one with a pin and key lock, needed to be replaced with a custom receiver. We also had to have a Curt reinforcement bar soldered on to our LR4. All the work was done by the experts at Can-Am. This set up tows like a dream😄

There's a few things that we did to reduce tongue weight, though we ended up adding some back by putting the Honda generator in the back of our Rover. You can't remove too much tongue weight as it should be at least 10% of the total loaded weight of the trailer.

• Aluminum Propane Tanks ~ 20lbs savings
• Removing the batteries from the tongue, installing Lithium batteries under the bed
• Installing a bike rack in the rear

We're now in Alaska after a full year on the road with our 2017 RRS Supercharged and 2017 27FB Signature Twin - we'll be here for a few months going around all the different port towns, Denali, Fairbanks, hiking, biking, and flying out to remote backcountry lodges. Beautiful country here!

LR dealer called today to let me know my new Discovery is going to be here in 3 weeks, and this weekend we went to the Airstream dealer to fall in love with the 25 FC. Even though it would largely exceed the maximum tongue weight published by LR, by the pictures and comments I read I am confident that we will be fine using a Blue Ox Sway Pro distribution hitch, and that even though typically LR max tongue published weights are really low, the car is capable of a lot more. If I am not wrong I would be one of the first ones to tow a big rig with a Disco 5, so I promise pics and reviews.

As a previous and current owner of Land Rovers my advice is:

Buy the biggest, most comprehensive extended warranty available.

You are going to need it.

It is a love/hate relationship for me. I lie to myself and say I’ll finally fix it all, but nope.

I'm on my 5th LR in 10 years and all have been very reliable outside of wear items. LR2, 2-LR4's, LR3 and now my RRS.

I've also owned '09 & '15 BMW's which in comparison, were a tad bit more required in the warranty work department. Still own the '09

Similar experience with Land Rover products. I had a 2006 RR that I kept for 10 years that was awesome. A 2012 RR that was great w no problems. A 2016 RR Diesel that I did have problems with the DEF computer on 3 occasions and currently a 2018 RR w 12,000 miles so far with no problems.
