High test gas

I was at Jackson Center with my Flying Cloud 28 and Ford F150 and someone suggested I should be using 91+ octane gas while towing. I looked in the owner's manual and in fact Ford suggests high test while towing. The eco-boost engine is supposed to perform better and get better mileage.

So I put in several tanks of high test and sure enough felt that I had more power towing and my gas mileage has gone from 11.5 to 13.5 mpg. I also am driving in tow/haul mode with sixth gear disabled.

Anyone have another opinion on this?

Thanks.

I formaly had a 150 Ecoboost and had the same experience. It ran even better on ethanol free gas as does my JGC Hemi 5.7.
