GM Vibration?

Apparently Chevy and GMA is having a bad vibration problem in their pickups and SUVs. When taken back to the dealer, owners are told that everything is within specs. There is talk of a class action lawsuit. Anyone experiencing this symptom?

It is a harmonic situation, rather than an out-of-balance condition. It's present in earlier builds (14 and 15) primarily. I've run into a handful in my part of the business. Seems to be a stacking of normal resonances which come into phase around 70 mph. In the ones I have dealt with. Loosinging all engine, trans and diff/axle mounts along with exhaust and body mounts. Moving them around and "settling" these interfaces corrects it. This, of course, is after the normal vibration analysis is performed. Every dealer has an EVA, but just like everything else, the skill of the tech is all important.

I have not experienced any vibration with my 2017 GMC Sierra. It has ~4000 miles on it at this point. I've never towed at 70mph, but I have put on some highway miles at 70-80mph without the trailer.

Hi

They have had issues on and off for at least 8 years. On the one I had it was a resonance issue with the drive shaft. At some speeds it would sound like a dead cat was caught in the fan blades. They have had various "fixes" out over the years. I basically gave up on mine and just lived with it. Eventually I did this and that and now have a F-250 (No I don't have much brand loyalty at all ....).

It is only in 1500 series platforms. It is a small number relative to the overall population. They are born with it. If you don't have it, you never will. It has nothing to do with age, miles nor use. Mine is baby butt smooth at all speeds. Even the Goodyears (which i really don't like) are round!

Rich,
That is comforting to know. These trucks are very quiet inside while driving on the freeway. Almost like being in a vacuum.
