Antique Pedaler, I get it - it’s a double-edge sword with the high end trim and devices. The new safety features are why we chose to upgrade.
The adaptive cruise control and autonomous braking are amazing. As soon as the trailer is connected, the truck sets the cruise’s radar range to the maximum. If someone changes lanes in front of you the truck automatically adjusts speed to give you the gap back. It will also brake to a stop if necessary. Think medical emergency... The blind-spot monitoring is also a big help (varies from model to model).
At the end of the day these reduce driver stress and fatigue. YMMV...

you're absolutely spot on there. You don't get these newer safety features, but with them obviously there is a cost due to technical complexity. And it's not as if you can say brand 'x' is way better than brand 'y' when it comes to sorting out these complexity and having a system that is trouble free. A glance at any of the manufacturers forums (this one included) would make you run as far away from their product. But knowing everybody has their issues doesn't make it any better when you're the one who is feeling the repair pain.

I agree completely with Acheron2010 on the navigation system upgrade. I contacted GM to upgrade the nav system on my 2012 Denali, and was told the most current upgrade available is the 2016 version, and ONLY $179 plus shipping!! GM didn't seem to care that it is already 4 years old, and suggested I buy a new model truck!! Seems like the manufacturers don't care about owners once vehicles are off warranty. With all the technology available today it seems unbelievable that this is the mentality of manufacturers. I am glad I upgraded my TV from the 2002 GM Duramax, and love the 2012 Denali for the extra comforts, but the Nav system really "ticks" me off!! JMHO

I have a 2012 F250 KR diesel and love it. As far as Nav guess I plan to upgrade to an aftermarket stereo and use Android auto. I love it in my Cadillac XT4. Maybe you guys with the older trucks like me should consider going that route. Real-time traffic updates and much more current then legacy systems.

The 2019/2020 GM models are only marginally 'better'... The maps are updated and you see traffic, but only if you subscribe to a certain level of their OnStar package. If you don't at some point the updates for the map stop and you immediately loose traffic info. I will say the new navigation/maps is nice, if you use it, like the newer Garmin units, it will show you a split view as you come up on an exit notifying you what lane you need to be in and "showing" you the exit.
One of my pet peeves is how most manufacturers don't update maps over the air or want you to subscribe in order to get them. Our 2015 Volvo S60 gets free updates! You simply download them onto a USB stick from the Volvo website, put the USB into the USB port and the car does the rest to update the maps. Why others can't follow this is beyond me.

Hope all works out for you in the end. My son in law bought a new Ram truck back last summer. He didnt have it two weeks when a rock cracked the windshield. It took right at 6 weeks to get it replaced due to no inventory. At least he was still able to use it.

I'll add an X2 for both the massaging seats which are great on longer drives and the adaptive cruise control. I hit the massage button about once every 100 miles. Driving with the ACC lets me slot in behind a semi that is going a speed I want and then let my truck keep a safe following distance.
I know Ford has a heads up-setup on the high end 2020 Escapes, so I expect it to show up on the F-series shortly.

All manufacturers can have problems and there's always that one truck that comes off the line a complete lemon.
My 2017 F-350 is due to run out of the 3/36 warranty in a few days. I have nothing pending that would make me feel the need to get the truck into the dealership ASAP. It has spend only a couple nights at the dealership for cosmetic stuff.
I shopped around at the time (circa 2015 - 2017) and Ford had the quietest diesel engine, hands down. In the cab it's like the Cone Of Silence from the show Get Smart. I am physically unable to talk loud and it's not necessary in my truck.
The 6.7L diesel and the 6r140 (6 speed) is a proven engine/transmission combination. Reliability is outstanding. There are very few complaints about the 6r140 transmission on the Ford truck forum. Hopefully the new 10r140 continues that track record. Initial feedback is showing good MPG gains.
The thing that really put Ford over the top is the aluminum body.

This is where Ford could do a better job. When I connect my trailer, the truck recognizes that it's connected and uses the profile of the most recently connected trailer. That's fine, but what would be nice is if it would also maintain the settings for the exhaust brake and the tow/haul mode for that trailer. I have to turn both those features on. First world problems, no doubt. But it's such a small software feature that its absence has generated a lot of complaints.
Adaptive Cruise Control is awesome. I won't have another vehicle without it.

Swell! I'm waiting on a 2500 Duramax 10 speed Silverado 2500HD with all the neat stuff and cameras. It was supposed to be delivered in Jan, then the end of Jan and now "sometime in Feb." My 2008 6.4 dually is about to roll over 300,000 miles, but it works. Not a good mileage, however, for the planned trip to Alaska. Now I'm wondering about the wisdom of taking the new Chevy.
PS: my first Chevy since 1962. I did look at all 3 diesel trucks. I went to Chevy because he beat the best Ford $$ by almost $5K, but all 3 brands have excellent power trains.

Yet if you are looking for a new vehicle they can see the vehicle inventory of every dealer in the country.

Traveled 4k with a friend. I used Garmin for GPS and rear view camera. The camera was great but his SIRI was way better on gps and was able to rout around highway accidents automatically. Wife has GPS in her Pathfinder but uses SIRI; I think the I phones are just better and easier to use.

Watch Scotty Kilmer on YouTube to get a mechanics viewpoint on the brands you’re looking into. Spoiler alert, he’ll recommend you stay as far away from Ram FKA Dodge Ram and GM/Chevrolet nearly as disappointing

I will stack up the interior of my 2020 super duty King Ranch with eo ther the Eam or GM. Additionally, the adaptive cruise and adaptive steering make all the difference in towing. Over 1000 foot pounds of torque and the 10 speed transmission...i just got 19.1mpg traveling from GA to MY with only 2000 miles on the odometer. This is my 3rd Ford in a row.

Wow this is very disappointing. We are looking at going up in size on our AS so likewise on our TV and I was looking forward to a 2021 GMC 2500 with all the bells and whistles so to speak. I really like the heads up display, intelligent cruise control, and other driver aids on my wife's Mazda CX-5. Our current 2018 Canyon is a great truck with zero problems, so maybe the decision to stay with the 20' is not just the trailer but the TV too. My stomach kind of hurts now when I think about spending big bucks and having problems LOL.
