Ford V-10

I would appreciate any ones experiences with a Ford F250 with the V10. It's a 2008 in like new shape. I just don't want a diesel and this seems like a good choice for pulling a Safari 25. Thanks in advance for your responses. Craig

hi 'hawk

plenty of truck for a 25.

should be a great combo.

mpg is a tad lower, but the 2008 6.4 l diesel is NOT fuel thrifty...

it also has higher operating costs for maintenance associated with diesel.

the v10 has a tad MORE hp than the 6.4 but less torque, and NO turbo lag.

still it can haul anything a/s makes with vigor.

u will read about the "spark plug threading issue" on older v10s,

but my understanding is these last years of that mota don't have the issue.

gearing matters for mpg, revs and so on...

but any of the 08 offerings can work pulling a stream.

cheers

IF u like mag reviews or comparisons, heres an old one...

2valve versus 3 valve

I was fortunate to find a new 2007 sitting on a dealer's lot in Dec 09-it is a e350 with the 2 valve v10. pulls my 31 no trouble power wise. the torq shift 5 speed auto trans is cool, too. just learn how to use it effectively. the 3 valve is more common in the f series and should be in the 08 truck. this gives a little more hp/torque and keeps the same mpg. (at least that is the theory behind Ford putting on 3v heads). smooth, reliable and according to all i have talked to good for many many thousands of miles. (I talked to the owner of a passenger van rental outfit in Boise, ID and he had 3 units 2 of which had 300,000 miles on them-he was keeping the engine from one that got wrecked as a spare, but decided to sell, cuz the vans were going to be replaced long before the engine(s) gave out).

Have had my V10 F250 since 2000 and it has been problem free. Pulls a 34' limited w/o a problem and I get 10-11 MPG.
