I'm poking this thread because we had the exact same issue on the way to Florida last week. (We've experienced slow cranking off and on as long as we've had the vehicle, but assumed it was a marginal battery.) On this trip, we were stranded at a rest stop, called AAA, but tried turning the key 20 minutes into our wait and got the truck going. I drove to the nearest Carquest for a new battery, but kept the old one. (They both check in the 12.4 to 12.5 V range at this point.) We had some iffy starts with the new battery when we hooked up for the next leg of our trip.
Most victims who provided updates about their resolution indicated that a heat soaked starter was involved, requiring replacement.
Keith, 22 months later, has your truck been running without issues? Thanks.
