First Trip With The Canoe

I built one of their 14 foot singles, 33 lbs, there is a pic of it under the review of Sugar Pne Point that I submitted last summer. Tahoe has it all over Lake San Antonio as far as kayaking goes.

Since our kids are getting older (and not camping with us as much) and we are getting older (and it's harder to lift that canoe over our heads to get it onto the Suburban), it's real tempting trade in the Old Town to get a pair of light weight singles.

Did you see my earlier post about the Thule Hulivator. It makes loading a breeze and hold the craft securely. Use the link below to my kayak and you will see how loading is done. The unit has gas shocks built in that take the weight while loading and unloading.

The unit will most likely fit on your rails.

Years ago when we towed with the Nissan Van I custom made cedar canoe racks. They worked very well.

What type hitch do you have? We have a Blue Ox and plan to travel in a couple of weeks with our two new kayaks (12’ & 12’10”) on a Spring Creek Manufacturing Tuff Truck bed rack while pulling our 2019 GT. Trying to figure out how far front over the Truck roof we have to put them for good clearance in sharp turns. How far over the roof did yours hang?

Edit: Better question might be how far was the stern of your canoe from the Airstream window?
