F150 vs F250 30' GT

Newbie here
Following up on an earlier pose a few months back. Yesterday we received a call from the Ford Dealership we placed our order with that the 2021 F150, which had been canceled due to the model year switchover in Sept., had APPARENTLY made the cutoff and been produced, without notice, and arrived at the lot yesterday. (The dealer was just as surprised) Anyways, we already have a F250 on order after reading these forums given our incoming 30' Globetrotter, and the apparent cancellation of the F150, but I decided to ask for a picture of the door sticker today just to see what the payload could have been (attached pic).

However, on the sticker, no specific payload is mentioned, only the GVWR and the GAWR's. I ask you all if it is possible to determine the payload, which is listed as 2155# on the "brochure", for this truck.

It is a crew cab, 6 1/2 Bed, 3.5L Ecoboost, 3.55 rear axle ratio, Lariat trim, basic options (no moonroof luckily) with the 7150 GVWR and MAX tow package by the way if that helps.

Given the option to buy it now onsite, and have a TV when the GT is set to arrive in late Feb. (the 250 on order is late Mar. at best), would it be adequate, or should I just stick with the 250 instead?

As you've discovered, that's not the sticker that shows payload. If the dealer sent you that picture, they sent a picture of the wrong one. (Why am I not surprised?) The sticker you're looking for is yellow and white and should be labeled "Tire and Loading Information". It contains information on correct tire pressures as well as the truck's payload. On my F250 it's on the driver's side door frame near the latch plate for the door. There really isn't a reliable way to calculate payload for your specific truck without seeing that sticker. Incidentally, I had an F150 Lariat equipped similarly to yours (it was a 4x4) and it had a payload of 1638# which is nowhere near the 2155# listed in the brochure you reference.

BTW, if I were towing a 30' Globetrotter, I'd definitely stick with the F250.

When I had asked for the picture, I said one of the driver side GVWR and Payload sticker, and that is what the dealer provided. I had a feeling it was wrong, as I have seen the mentioned yellow sticker on our older Ford Explorer. I do not know what to ask of them then to find the Payload of the truck, if this is what they provided.

Ask them for a picture of the sticker that shows the correct cold tire pressure information. It also happens to show the maximum payload at those pressures.

I think they may have gotten confused and provided the sticker with the GVWR and GAWR info instead of payload.

I have a 2021 30ft globtrotter and could not imagine using a half ton as a TV. But, if you purchased the 150 your gap would be covered. When the 3/4 ton comes in , you'd have no problem getting your money back on trade-in with tax credits. These are some very unique times so this is not normal. (Re: tax credit refers to being in taxes. Don't know your states tax laws)

When I had questions about towing and payload on my truck, I took the VIN, called Ford, patiently waited, and had all my detailed questions answered.

I just traded my 2018 STX to a 2021 STX (regretting it) with 7050# GVWR, 5.0 Coyote and 4WD. That yielded me an increase in payload from 1670 lb (old truck) to 1980 lb but now I also have 4WD and the 2kw. Your GVWR package is only 100 lb more, so if you also ordered with 4WD and I can’t see how the Lariat package would be lighter than STX, I expect the payload on your F150 to be no more than 2100 lb. I’ll be interested to see what the yellow sticker actually shows.

Are you willing to take the increased risk with pushing the limits of a TV?

Undeniably the F250 will be safer than the F150. Data and real life road conditions say so. Iv'e had both, informing you from experience.

I believe you will have a much better towing experience with the 250. Having towed our 27' with both, I'm really glad we now have the 250. Worth the wait, IMO.

Don't screw around with the F-150, nice truck but I wouldn't pull more than a bass boat with one, go big or stay home. I'd opt for the 6.7 diesel but if you are living in San Deigo, Diesel will eat you alive. I know you'll be missing out on some good camping weather but don't make a mistake that lasts for years! The F-250 is a real truck. I moved up from a F-150 with the 5.0L to the F-250 with the 6.7L. No comparison, the F-250 hands down!

We tow our 27' International with a Chevy 1500 6.2L with the max tow package. It is more than enough truck for anywhere we go out west. It pulls, rides and stops just fine. I have yet to tow in the east, that has shorter grades but also (sometimes) much steeper. If I didn't use this truck as my daily driver, I would have a 2500. If I was towing a 30', my daily driver would be a 2500. Can you do it?? Yes. Will the 250 be more comfortable for you?? Yes, without a doubt.

If this is just a curiosity exercise, call him back and ask for a pic of the "yellow sticker". I would not seriously consider any F150 for a 30' over an F250 .... We went up to a F350 for our 30'.

We started our RV life in July of 2020 pulling our 2020 27’ Globetrotter with a 2018 F-150 with the Ecoboost. Both the Ford salesman and the Airstream salesman said, “Sure it’ll pull it, no problem!”

Well, it did, but we could feel it was at its max. The 10-speed would downshift to 2nd & 3rd going up and down the hills of Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio. We would feel our truck go over a bump, then we’d feel the wheels of our Globetrotter go over it. My wife was constantly car sick and she was not enjoying our new life.

We traded up for 2021 F-350 in January of 2021 and absolutely love it. The 6.7 liter diesel purrs along with nary a downshift. We no longer have a concern about payload and the comfort of the ride is immeasurable.

I tow my 2018 Classic 33 with the same truck 75 MPH all day long . I added 12 ply tires to cut back on the bounce.

I was towing my 2018 28 with a 2013 F150 Platinum. It towed fine, but with the bed loaded it was clearly over payload. Also, on steep downgrades, even with the trailer brakes adjusted, it was maxed at the bottom of the hill. I traded it for a 2021 F250 XLT, and very glad I did.

I have essentially the same F150 that you ordered but in a 2018 model year. I've pulled a 25 footer all over the country with it and am happy with the performance. BUT, I would not consider it for a 30 footer - the F-250 is the right truck for you.

Never push the limits of your TV. You will not be happy with the result. I pushed the limits with my first Airstream. After two years and some white knuckles, I traded up to a 2500 HD Duramax diesel. I've never been more satisfied.
The tongue weight alone on your 30 footer will eat up a large portion of the payload of a F-150.

IMHO the 3.55 axle ratio on the F150 is a problem, your dealer should have spec'd 3.92 or 4.10 ratio for towing a large trailer.
