F150 Max Payload

I have an F150. No desire to get an F250. My F150 with propride hitch and roadmaster suspension system does wonderfully pulling my 28 AS.

But would like to get a bit more payload and looking at the F150 Max Payload. Anyone using it? Thoughts?

F150 Max Payload

I have a FBQ 27 International Serenity.

I pull it with a 2018 F150 xlt Super crew with the heavy duty payload package. 3.5l ecoboost.

Rated for 2450 lbs on the yellow door sticker.

I think it is the right truck for my trailer.

May upgrade my brakes when the stock brakes wear out.

Cost almost as much as a F250 but rides like a F150 with plenty of payload to spare.

Had a 2500 Diesel Silverado before. Pulls the same.

Hard to find. Normally you have to custom order it.

There were 2 on the ground in the US when I bought one of them.

Pulled 5000 miles so far.

Thanks for the reply. That has nearly 600lbs more payload than my F150 which is more than enough for my needs. I realize I’ll have to order it. But as you say far more comfortable driving than an F250 and fully capable of pulling my AS. It’s really a wonder why more don’t get this pickup for pulling.

I didnt consider a HDPP F150 because you can't get a crew and an 8ft bed F150.

Max payload helps a lot, but it locks out other options. For example, you can't get the lux interior.

We have a 2013 F-150 supercrew ecoboost 157" wheelbase with maxtow - sticker states 1533 payload however, with 7700lb GVWR option E rate tires - based on the TV GCWR - GVWR of both our AS and TV with weight distrbution we can safely carry 1900lb and stay within our axle ratings.

I can’t find any reference to a “max payload package” on the Ford F150 website. Like others, I have the “max tow package,” but that’s a different animal. Any help understanding this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Its actually the "Heavy-Duty Payload Package" and as a previous poster said you usually have to order it and it only coes in certain configuations. The max tow package is quite common on trucks on the lot but doesn't increase the pay load like the Heavy-Duty Payload Package does.

This website will help you understand 2019 F-150 towing capacity:

https://news.pickuptrucks.com/2019/0...apacities.html

It also contains links to Ford documents on the subject.

The guys at the Ford dealership I go to suggested the HDPP after I said I wish I had more payload without messing with an F250. I think most people do not realize it is even an option.

FYI, your payload will go up a little bit more if you get a long wheelbase model too. (e.g. a supercrew with the 6.5 foot bed.)

Hi

The *only* way to know what this or that truck will have for a rating is to look at the door post on *that* truck. The numbers you bump into on the internet inevitably are higher than what the real truck has.

I'd suggest you take a ride in a modern 250. They are *not* what they used to be.

I have driven an F250. Don’t like it. Too big. They are not what they used to be but I don’t like them as they are.

My payload on the Super Crew XLT with 6.5 bed is over 1800lbs. So the max payload should be more than that. Previous poster said his was 2450lbs.

Hi

Just be careful about checking the exact truck you decide to buy. When looking I never did find two trucks with the same numbers on that door sticker. That's despite them having the same set of options that I was after.

Not quite sure about the "to big" since the 150 and 250 now share the same basic cab and various body sheet metal pieces. Indeed the 250 comes out to about 1 to 3" bigger in some areas. That's ok, as long as you have indeed checked the new ones out. Trucks are very much a "what works for me" sort of thing.

I find the following link useful: https://www.hannafords.ca/ This is a dealer in Ontario who posts photos of the vehicle payload and axle rating stickers for all his inventory. As you said, the numbers are different for every vehicle but you can get a pretty good idea of the ratings by picking out a vehicle with similar configuration and the options you want.

Hi

Sometimes this turns into a "I need to order one" process. In that case there is no sticker to look at. Generally if you order a very specific truck ( = one the dealer would not normally stock ) there is a deposit involved. If the sticker is a shocker when it arrives, you either are out the deposit or you now own a truck that doesn't meet your expectations.

The F250 seems to sit substantially higher than the F150. Maybe it's the trucks I've checked at the local dealer, but at 6'0" I can barely see over the side of the truck to peer into the bed.

I am well aware they share the same cab, but the F250 sits 6 inches higher than the F150. That's just too high. My wife is 5'6. Hard enough for her to get in and out of the pickup now. And then you have to consider moving stuff in and out of the pickup such as the bed, the cab, etc. The F150 is already a big truck. Plus the F250 is harder to park and doesn't drive as nice. Hard to see over the ends. Although I am the primary driver if my wife has to drive the truck anywhere it's just too big for her.

I watched a TFL truck video that compared the F150 to F250 while pulling a 9,000lb trailer. The general consensus is the F250 didn't ride as nice. Not bad, but not the same. And I have driven a 3/4 ton. WOULD not want it for a daily driver.

So if I can get the payload necessary for what I want to do in an F150 that's my best option.

Order it. When you're spending this kind of money, get what you want, not what's on the lot. I used the build it process on Ford's web site to get a "spec sheet" .pdf that I could send to local dealers. When the sales folks called to discuss, I was upfront and blunt about the fact that I would not take a "close to it" unit off the lot, and I didn't want anything that wasn't on the build sheet. That shut out the "for a few dollars more" BS. Because dealers pay Ford the same thing, the documented bids I got were almost identical, with taxes and distance from home the deciding factors. The price on the dealer bid sheet is what you'll pay, less any current incentives, plus local taxes. I put down a $500 deposit to start the build process. When my truck came in 6 weeks after ordering, there were roughly $4k worth of incentives available, essentially covering sales tax. Good luck.
