F-150 Upgraded Rear Bumper

Could those of you with a late model F-150 that have the "upgraded rear bumper" tell me if the hitch is integrated to the bumper. More specifically, can the hitch be removed without changing out the bumper?

I have a 2009 and the entire hitch assembly is separate from the chrome bumper.

Aviator, was your model described as having the "upgraded rear bumper"?

I have 2011 and it has the heavy duty upgraded bumper. From what I can see the chrome bumper can be unbolted from the hitch.

But the hitch can't be removed by itself. It is part of the bumper assembly.

BigAl, so if one were to remove the hitch (to upgrade or replace with a non-OEM hitch), I would have no place to reattach the bumper?

Look up www.southtexasoutfitters.com , and see their bumper replacements. The factory hitch is removed, but their bumpers are second to none. Had mine since the truck was new, 146,000 miles ago and probably have 50,000 towing miles.

Sorry for delay. I think you are right. Looks like the hitch and bumper sub frame(which is all the heavy metal) is one unit. The chrome is just window dressing.

Siegmann, I can't find anything calling it upgraded. It is a lariat model with the heavy duty tow package.
