It's July. If it's just now been caught in emissions testing, and still has lots of camo, it's probably going to be part of the MY2018 refresh rather than the 2017 lineup.

I suspect this is true. Because of the VW diesel thing, the EPA has required ALL diesels to undergo a testing for software emissions compliance....that's new and existing powertrains. This is anticipated to take 6 MONTHS per engine, whereas it used to take 6 weeks for certification. Expect many diesels to be in short supply for this year. They can't be sold until they are certified.

2017 F-150 not out till January??
Just talked with dealer in Helena, MT about when could order new 2017 F-150; he said not taking orders till January?? they are taking F250 orders now however...seems like there may be some major changes coming delaying the 2017 release? Anyone else hearing news on the F-150 lineup? Forgot to mention; I was inquiring about the new 10 speed trany and the new EB model...also asked about the rumor diesel.

If they don't deliver new trucks before 1 January 2017 I think they'll have to call it a 2018, or perhaps 2017.5. I'm sure there's some sneaky way around it like delivering one hand-finished one to a customer but I'd bet you a King Ranch payment that the dealer just wanted to make it sound like a far-future event to get you interested in the '16s he has on the lot. The all-new aluminum-bodied '15s were taking orders in Q3 of 2014 and delivering custom-ordered trucks in early Q4 of 2014. The new-generation 3.5 Ecoboost w/ the 10-speed might have some delays, but even it's that's so I'm betting they'll be delivering trucks with the other three unchanged drivetrains around the usual fall timeframe.

I believe that the only regulation regards early introductions, not late. IOW, you can't call an 18 an 18 before 1/1/17. Manufacturers, of their own marketing volition typically won't call a prior year designation after end of regular production year.....somewhere around June or July of current calendar year. Fleet can be a common exception for long run vehicles where demand requires.

2017 f150
Not meaning to hijack this thread, but follow up on earlier discussion. Not so sure the dealer in Helena is accurate, when he told me last week that 2017 F150 not out till end of year...just saw this YouTube on F150 EB w/ 10 speed trany where he mentions availability in fall...interesting discussion on EB and trany. I know its not diesel discussion, but trany likely would be similar if they do come with 1/2 ton diesel at some point.

Re: the 10-spd: Yeah, I'm debating whether I want a '16 or an '18. Pretty sure I don't want the first year of an all-new transmission for my tow vehicle, though the improvements to the 3.5EB sound appealing.

I hear you on the question; 2017 or wait a year...however, watching Ford EB testing early on, they put well over 250K miles on that set up, documented in various real world situations on Youtube...I had 2 friends who were first buyers also, with no issues...but, I hear you. I would think they are testing same way now for this release...hope so anyway.

Yes, they tested the 3.5EB heavily and made their testing very public (after the fact) as a marketing campaign. They put the 2011 EB in front of the proven 6R80 transmission though, and this time around it's a new-gen engine and an all-new transmission. My current truck is an '07, my car is an '05. I like to keep 'em a while. So, it's worth a bit of a wait to give them a chance to get it dialed in.

I look forward to another 1/2 ton diesel option. Hopefully it is a 2017.

You have to think GM is going to dust off the 4.5L duramax at some point and put it into a 1500. They have the 6.6 in the 2500, they now have 2.8 in the Canyon/Colorado, so at some point it seems logical they would fill that 1500 spot with a diesel. They finished the 4.5L Duramax, but when sales fell off the charts, they decided not to pursue it. If Ford and RAM have 1500 diesel options, you have to think GM is going to jump into the game.
