Don't know if this is the right forum for this question but I am sure someone will move it if needed.
I purchased an 05 Excusion Diesel mostly on the recommendation of folks on this site. I bought this behimoth because I never want to be short of power for my proposed pull toy (28' Safari). I saw a bunch of vehicles pulled off the side of the road last month when leaving Las Vegas. The hill to the west in 115 degree temps was too much for many. It looked like the road leaving Quait after we chased Sadam's boys out (without the dead bodies). As a former fighter pilot I am familiar with the importance of the EGT (exhaust gas temperature) on a jet engine. I hope that I never have to rely on thrust (after-burner) to move the Excursion but I would like to have a reliable read on the condition / stress on the engine when pulling gets tough. I do not intend to add-on any of the aftermarket booster products that change the computer program running the engine. SO ...
1. There is the transmission temp gage but is that enough?
2. Is it worth the cost to have an EGT gage put in?
3. If so, where should the sensor be placed (without upsetting the Ford waranty)?
4. Any recommendations on brands?
Thanks,
Iver
