That's a new one. I just received my third recall on my '12 2500 Ram. The first was for an ECM reflash that ended up costing me 15-20% in fuel mileage, the second for failing tie rod ends (fairly major deal), and now the Diesel fuel heater connector is failing causes them to catch fire. (another major deal IMHO)

However, the current recall says they will issue another recall to let me know when they actually have the parts to fix the fuel heater connector!

At this point my plan is if it catches fire, I will quickly disconnect from the trailer, and let it burn.

The recall is for 1/2T trucks. I can attest that losing the driveshaft on a permitted 84,000-lb semi loaded with 280F asphalt is exciting. Due to incompetent mechanic. Imagine trying to stop something that can't really be stopped with brakes alone.

A controlled crash is the choice but how to choose among the options available?

SteveH, is the fuel heater necessary for likely Texas weather? Is it "hot" with ignition off? I'd disconnect it and see if codes come up. I'd imagine the more knowledgeable on CF have already covered this.

OTOH, maybe an insurance claim can get you into a (better) 14 or 15.

A fire extinguisher, even partially discharged, covers the bases (ha!)

To answer your questions about the fuel heater, I don't know on either of the points. Maybe wrongly, but I would have to assume they were smart enough to operate the thing from the ECM driven by temperature.

However, I do carry a fire extinguisher in the Airstream, but in this event it will only be used to protect the Airstream, not the Ram.

I just think Dodge has had way too many recalls on this thing, and I've had way too much trouble getting it to tow the trailer with acceptable stability.
