Dodge Recall 1.8 million trucks

I just read where Dodge trucks from 2008-2017 are being recalled due to bad trannies that allow shifting without your foot on the brake. You Dodge boys better run to the dealer.

Those of us who learned to safely shift to Park before this "feature" was added probably wouldn't even notice.

Remembering, as a child, sitting in the seat "play" driving and with a shift on the column it seems like a good idea to need to have to press on the brake.

Keep the kiddos away from it until it's fixed if affected.

Dodge has never out sold Ford and the bolt you are talking about was not on their trucks. The only thing Dodge ever out-engineered Ford was their ash tray, since Dodges are so much cheaper, more smokers buy them.

It appears a bit of clarity is necessary...

The recall issue is related to a part called the brake transmission shift interlock, which when functioning properly, disallows a vehicle from moving out of park until the driver steps on the brake pedal. Fiat Chrysler found that in some situations (reported to be extended idle periods while stationary), heat buildup around the gearshift causes the shift interlock to fail.

That means that even if your foot remains on the brake, your truck might move of its own volition. Therefore, the recommended behavior is to always use the parking brake when leaving the truck while it is idling and to ensure that child occupants are never left unattended.

The 1.8 million vehicle recall includes a range of models, including the Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 pickups from the model years between 2010 and 2017 (of which 1.48 million were sold in the U.S.).

I have to admit, as an owner of a 2015 Ram 2500 purchased August 2015 I'm disappointed my truck has gone through one major recall, the replacement of the catalytic converter and now is due for a water pump recall, of which there are no parts available yet and now this recall. You wonder what is going on in FIAT controlled RAM.

Luckily I don't idle the engine a lot like some diesel owners I notice on my travels. The only time it idles more than normal is when hitching/unhitching, most of that time I do have the parking brake on and from now on will make a mental note to always use the parking during this procedure.

I'm not a rabid fan and will replace it for another brand if it proves to be unreliable for my travels.
