Dodge 1500 SS/T?
1998 Dodge 1500 SS/T V8 5.9L with factory camper tow package. Was told this has a lot of 3/4 ton truck features, but unsure of what exactly they are. Waiting for seller to get back to me.
I have a modified 1972 29' Airstream, heavier than original. Is this a safe/good setup?
Airstream is my home, I don't want to take chances.
Was unclear with the truck being 1/2 ton, but still having 3/4 upgrades (and I believe seller said was registered as a 3/4 ton vehicle?). Is this a possibility for a good TV or should I be looking strictly at 3/4 tons?
Thanks,
Brock

Anti Sway?
If you have an equalizer hitch or some other means of towing with the TV and trailer level along with an anti sway setup, you should be OK. Is your truck a long or short wheel base? 29' is a pretty long rig for a short wheel base truck in my opinion.

Don't know about 3/4 ton "features", but wasn't the SS/T the sport truck version (read hotrod)?

I would find some information out:
- engine size - the 360 was the last of the old school engines though it is proven to the powerful, reliable and thirsty.
- what transmission
- transmission cooler
- axle ratio
- what were the typical features of a 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton - compare/contrast these features - find this out to see if the owner is blowing smoke at you.......
- What modifications has the owner made - I have seen manufacturers not even put a tow rating on their hot rod trucks so something must be different.
1998 Dodge Ram SS/T information and photos.
Allpar has Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth, and Jeep car, minivan, and truck information

Looks like more of an appearance option. I had a 2001 Quadcab with leather and the goodies. But the V8-318 lacked power, performance and fuel mileage. I might have kept it if it was better at any one of those. Reliability on this engine line (LA-series) is better than anything put out by Ford or GM. Although the V8-360 looks similar on paper in real life it is a much better performer than the 318. I'd be concerned about previous owner care and use, but a good one would be fun to have. The engine and transmissions can be rebuilt to better performance as a TV and for FE quite easily (should it need re-freshing).
Rear gears were either 3.54 or 3.73. Mine weighed 5,218 in shortbed config (with truck empty but for driver & full fuel).

Towed our 27 foot Excella with a 318 regular cab shortbed. Not good. Sal.
