Diesel Suburban Lasted 2 Weeks...Sigh

I had it nailed, ya'll, found a diesel Suburban with 150,000 miles on it. Took me 8 weeks of hard searching.

Great two vehicle.

It got hit by a garbage truck last week, and she's a goner.

Back on the hunt, but don't have the time or energy to hunt down another one.

Someone please just indulge me - 24 ft. Airstream, little mountain driving - moderate budget - just tell me what to buy.

Get a V10 Excursion. You can get them for less than $10k around here. Look hard and maybe you can find a 7.3L Diesel. You can get a used Excursion for half the price of a used full size pickup and they have the same running gear.

You might consider a van as well. E250-E350.

This was my tow till the engine failed. I got an Excursion but still put a new engine in her and now she is a third vehicle

Sounds like HowieE has just the ticket for you. If I were looking I'd definitely contact HowieE.

If that doesn't work out for some reason, or you're just curious, check out the DuraBurbs built down in Florida. Here's a link to the thread that discusses the DuraBurbs:

You know a diesel is overkill for a 24' airstream most any full size SUV can handle it, even some midsize ones.

I don't know the gross weight of your Argosy—but it shouldn't be over 5,000 lbs. and probably less. There's no need for a diesel. Any fairly new gas full sized pickup and many SUV's can easily handle that weight. Less maintenance, less purchase cost.

I second the excursion. Very happy with mine.

Vans Rule

I happen to be a van lover. Been towing with vans for over 18 years. I own a 2002 Chevy 3500 window van now. It has 196k on it and still runs great. I have towed over 8100 lbs trailers without any problem. Also my van has not needed any major repairs(Knock on Wood). The best thing about having a van is my kids sleep in the van and me and the wife sleep in the AS

I like vans as well but unless you want a cargo van they can be hard to find with seats in them.
