Diesel Shortage

According to this article (https://camperreport.com/diesel-shortage-2022/) it appears as though we can add a shortage of diesel fuel to the mix of shortages.

Just curious if anyone has had any issues with getting diesel fuel?

I've heard reports of sporadic problems across the country, but where I am in SE Wisconsin there is no issue that I'm aware of.

My gut reaction to stories like this is that there's a bit of hype and a bit of reality in this story.

Either way, by the start of the coming travel season this will likely pass over as yesterday's news and we'll already be on to the next crisis.

I'm betting higher prices and decent availability. Funny how price increases can make a product more available.

Just got back from an 1800 mile trip in our Ram/Cummins. No issues with Diesel. Covered most of the NE.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

I filled up the Duramax yesterday in the western Florida Panhandle. Diesel seems to be readily available here. I paid $3.24/gallon.

Gas prices at our local Sam's Club in Longmont CO don't seam to reflect a diesel shortage here.

Regular: $3.24
Premium: $3.78
Diesel: $3.12

We just got back from a 2000+ mile trip and had no problem finding diesel fuel on the road. HOWEVER, I went to change my oil in the motorhome when we returned and couldn’t find my usual oil anywhere in town. I usually use Shell Rotella, 15-40 heavy duty diesel oil and I was out of luck. I did find 10-30 Rotella and ended up using that. I checked every auto parts store in town along with the big box stores. So something is going on!

This story is clickbait. Zero issues with diesel availability here, also currently priced competitively vs gasoline.

Shortages of gasoline and diesel here, due to recent weather events, primarily heavy rains leading to flooding and mudslides. All major highways have been washed out.

The pipeline from Alberta is down. Our only local refinery is out of supply. Fuel is being barged and trucked in from the US (Washington State).

We are subject to a 30 l (8 gallon) maximum purchase of any road fuel, per visit, unless one is operating a vehicle for essential services (ambulance, firetruck, flood relief, food delivery)

All this by way of saying that our supply chains are not as resilient as they should be, and this issue is common across North America.

Earlier this month there were some truck stops on I-40 in Arizona and NM that ran out but the reason was said to be deliveries falling behind. We just completed a 1,500 mile trip in AZ, NV. and CA. and although there were no shortages there were lines at most places and higher prices. To be expected though on a holiday weekend and Black Friday, I-10 was bumper to bumper between Phoenix and Tucson, never saw it so crowded.

Agree with Mayco. Couldn’t find Rotella T6 any where. Finally found 3 gallons at Home Depot. Logistics problem for sure.

Diesel Shortage

Diesel $3.06 at Murphy Oil in north central TX this afternoon. I’ve not seen any Def at several Walmarts the last month. There was no def and no Rotella of any viscosity today either

Perhaps this article is just click bait. And based on responses, it is good that there doesn't appear to be a shortage of fuel.

The cost per gallon is a different subject. Substantially higher!

There were a few stations near me in southeastern Ohio that were out around month ago - probably 1 - 2 weeks. Haven't seen any shortages anywhere else.

Orange County, CA is about $4.69 a gal- no shortage but price is ridiculous!

Looks like there are indeed shortages here and there, Northern Arizona among them again. Not at all surprising given the current supply chain woes https://www.irv2.com/forums/f59/dies...ml#post6004302
I have no idea how heating oil is allocated but I wonder if the heating season will affect it? I know that the two are almost the same thing, isn't heating oil just #1 diesel? Being a desert rat I never had to deal with it.

There is a blog at the "Gas Buddy" website which tracks production and current inventories.

The company I worked for delivered heating oil and road diesel in the same truck. The difference was the road tax. If it was sold without tax it was usually dyed.

Here, heating season drives diesel fuel prices up, and down, each year.
