Like mentioned get an analysis, I use Blackstone and you would be surprised how long good quality oil can be run as long as it is getting hot enough to burn off moisture. 176K on my Ford and still runs like new.

The one thing that I can say is that our two nearest Nissan dealers are both together on their advice to us regarding Oil Change Intervals on the 2017 Nissan Titan XD Diesel -- wait until the on-board computer recommends a change -- this, for our use contradicts the Nissan Factory recommendation of 10,000 miles or annually. This truck is used only for highway trips, and at this point, only about 500 of the 5,000 miles have been towing either a 22' flatbed car hauler or a 12' utility trailer for our garden tractor. A whole multitude of problems have kept us from attaching it to the Airstream as the truck needs to go to the dealer for one problem or another nearly every other week.

The truck was one year old on August 8, and we had the oil changed in late July at around 4,750 miles. I would gladly go back to the 1999 Suburban as tow vehicle, but it was retired due to a problematic transfer case -- its only recurrent problem in 198,000 miles. I don't know what we will do regarding the next oil change as the dealer still insisted that we did not need to change the oil when it was done.

I have much greater confidence in the GM dealer who has sold and serviced my GM vehicles since 1985. It is also nice to only have to drive 2 miles to the dealer verses 35 miles for either of the Nissan dealers.

I have changed oil and filter every 5,000 miles vs factory suggested 10,000 miles in my 2007 Mercedes ML 320 CDI with a 3.0L V6 turbo diesel that now has 185,000 miles on it. I change oil in my 2012 6.7 Cummins in my Ram at every 5,000 miles or annually, which ever occurs first.

Oil is still cheaper than main bearings.

My 1999 Ram 2500HD (Gen-1 24-valve 5.9 Cummins) has a full Amsoil with by-pass filter using Amsoil 15W40 HD marine/diesel oil that was set up by the PO who was an automotive engineer. After running analysis every 8,000 miles for 2 years, I find that, since I travel a bit over 20,000 miles/yr, I change oil and all filters (oil filter. bypass filter, air filter, fuel filter) annually. As well, every 2 years I have the 4-speed automatic transmission flushed and changed (as well as the coolant). I bought the TV in 2011 when it had only 55,000 miles on it - TV now had a bit over 200,000 miles and runs well.

There are times that I only go 3ooo in 6 months...the less you drive the worse the oil so I adhere to the 6 month interval because I like my warranty .

Every 5k and fuel filter every 3rd oil change. Don’t forget about the fuel filter.

Rotella-T6. I would change and sample at 7500 miles and send the sample to Blackstone Labs for an oil analysis. They can tell you if the oil is worn out. I would not change oil more than once a year unless it is for mileage. As much as these things cost, don't run cheap mineral oil in them. You can probably go at least 10k between changes without an issue. Synthetics are better when you dump the oil than mineral oil is new. We tested this stuff at NASA and it is a lot better than mineral oil.

Surprised to hear of your problems. I have a 2016 Titan XD diesel and it has never been back to the dealer for anything.

I do oil and fuel filter changes and my long term mechanic does the transmission fluid.
Just rolling up on 40k...

The expectation was that the Titan would be something like the Datsuns that we had in the 1970s -- little more than regularly scheduled maintenance needed, but that has been far from the case. The truck was delivered with paint that had defects that had to be addressed and a bed liner that had multiple flaws. Then its brakes totally failed four times (brake pedal to floor no fluid in reservoir) and partially failed six times with pedal going nearly to floor with minimal braking. The built-in trailer brake controller unexpectedly and without warning locks up the trailer brakes. The truck has gone into "Limp-Home-Mode" four times with no explanation. Both exterior door handles on the driver's side have failed as well as the interior door handle on the driver's door. It is rare that two weeks goes by that we don't have to visit the dealer's service department. We haven't take this rig out with the Airstream yet as its reliability has been such an issue.

5,000 miles is max on gas or Diesel engines regardless in all my vehicles.Full synthetic or synthetic blend depending on mfg recommendations.

I always change my oil in my pickups at 4- 5000 miles...oil is cheap and I have never had a failure....ford 7.3.....07 ram....17 ram am currently using shell synthetic 5-40....

When the particulate filter is in burn mode the fuel is injected into the muffler for the burn...not extra fuel into the cylinders...don’t be idleing....that is the major cause of fuel in the oil

When we had our Cummins I changed around 7500 miles, max. I did have an oil sample done at one point, and it indicated I shouldn’t go further than 9,000 miles on an oil change.

We change the stock Mercedes fuel filter on our Mercedes diesels every 10,000 miles. We use their part.

When I upgraded to a Titan 54 gallon under body fuel tank on the 2012 Ram, I added a Cummins water separator beside the fuel tank on the frame rail. From there the fuel line goes to the original fuel filter and housing on the side of the block. From there it goes to the engine compartment where there is a Cummins two micron fuel filter and then to the fuel rail.

We also added a FS-2500 additional cartridge oil filter to the engine oil system and one to the transmission oil system. See http://www.fs2500.com for how it works. Both FS-2500 filters were attached to the frame rail on different sides of the truck.

I have a similar system on my 2005 F350, and a coolant bypass filter too. The filters are easy to change, the biggest challenge was finding space under the hood to install them.
I've never had an oil analysis done, but I'm approaching the time for an oil change so I just ordered a kit from Blackstone - thanks to those of you who suggested that.

Yes, we have made two tries thus far but have been unsuccessful. An acquaintance who has had similar problems finally consulted an attorney before Nissan listened and we are considering that option. We had planned a "snow-bird" trip this winter, but given the Titan's lack of dependability our plans have been suspended.
