According to that link, the truck engine must be running to power the generator. Seems a little inefficient to me.

F350

One key to the Ford is the front suspension fix.
We went with the F350, mainly because we wanted Gas 6.2 and not the Diesel maintenance expense.

Rancho provides the factory shocks, and the best advice I can offer is to immediately replace the factory shocks and steering stabilizer with the aftermarket upgrade. The difference when towing is amazing.

If you have a 4 wheel drive I recommend you upgrade before you find yourself on the road and experience the issues that occur when you hit a rough patch of road.

F250 Diesel

Just changed over my 2017 f250 diesel to 2020 f250 diesel. Tows my globetrotter 27 as if its not there.
Use it to tow a couple of heavy speed /surf boats and also never any issue with power up hills or when overtaking. 2020 feels like steering is lighter. Also gearbox is now 10 speed so finding fuel economy is better. I have the lariat FX4 as its the most upgraded version I can still get with a bench seat - 6 people in car!

Expedition

We have an Expedition Max Platinum and love the:
- sound system
- adjustable, massaging seats
- huge moon roof

Dislike
- apple car play is very buggy
- the foot activated lift gate seldom works (not applicable if you go F150

The Apple play thing, a pain. I can't figure out how to keep it from picking up my wife's phone and showing her screen, instead of the map.

Took me a while to get used to the foot-activated lift gate, but now it usually opens on first kick. This is handy in the Covid-19 era, as when I go to the grocery store, I can open the lift without touching and use the hand disinfectant I keep in the back, then load the groceries.

One problem installing the hitch in the receiver, the lift gate will sometimes get confused and close on me. You can turn it off, but a pain (have to set a dashboard preference).

If you turn off Bluetooth on the wifes phone, the problem with the map should go away.

F350 Diesel

We have the 2019 Lariat Ultimate Pkg. I would echo all the positives brought up so far.

The one thing I wish I could change is getting the power (retractable) running boards. The reason is my 53 wife has quite a climb to get into the truck. The retractable boards are a little lower than the fixed boards when extended. Weve also checked into a retrofit or even a lower set of fixed running boards. To our surprise nobody, not even the local Ford dealer, wants to go there.

Other than that the truck is great.

I was skeptical of the power running boards myself, when shopping for an SUV. Another thing to go wrong.

But ... now that I have the Expedition, I have to say that the power running boards work well. And my wife loves them, so ...

@KK4YZ,
There are a number of threads on the Ford-Trucks.com forum in the 2017+ subforum showing how to add the powered steps. I don't think they are the Ford factory steps. Instead, I think they are the AMP Research steps and the aftermarket install doesn't have the same integration as factory. What's missing is the ability to deploy/disable the steps from the Sync screen. Otherwise, they work just like the factory powered steps.

The reasons I don't like it are, it's very disconcerting to me to have the engine stop every time I stop at a stop light and I've read (and it make sense to me) that it is hard on the battery.

I also know that there are aftermarket fixes for this.
Ask your dealer if they can disable auto shut off. It's all programming, I sure there's a way.

Our BMW has this function, but once you turn it off, it stays off, even after a restart, until you turn it back on manually.

And almost zero payload capacity.

It is programming. I doubt that the Ford dealer will do it because of EPA requirements, but, you can do it, yourself, with Forscan. I did it 3 years ago.

If it is an EPA requirement, it is new. On my 2015 BMW X5, auto stop stays at the last setting before you shut the engine off. I leave mine off. Then I know when my husband has driven my car because, when he pushes the "start" button, his finger also catches the on/off button

The EPA requirement is a MPG goal. By making the fleet shut off the engine when idling, they lower the fuel usage minimally, but over thousands of vehicles, it adds up.

I only wish that the F-150, like your BMW X5, remembered the previous setting. Alas, it does not. No matter what the last setting was, if you turn off the vehicle, then turn it back on, the A.S.S. defaults back to ON.

There is a device (for about $100) that you can install between the switch and wiring harness that remembers the last setting, or you can simply disable the whole mess with Forscan.

The device is called the Autostop Eliminator, and can be found here:

My understanding is that if you useForscan to disable it, you completely disable the battery management system software. This could have unintended side effects.

That has been suggested as the possible means by which this works. However, no one has provided any evidence either for or against that theory. At this point, that is speculation.

I have a 2018 f350 lariat with ultimate tow package towing a 25 Eddie Bauer. Love the truck, I always replace the shocks (bilstein) and rims (fuel) and tires (hankook). More than enough power and soo much payload for stuff.
