Chevrolet Suburban HD coming?

I’ve read posts here of people who claim they are waiting for one of these...

Call GM, let them know the first one is spoken for!

I briefly looked into these things. A few years ago, they were starting at $135k and maxing out at "if you have to ask, you can't afford it".

For that price, I could get a new truck and have enough left over for a new Corvette. But man, that thing is awesome. Because...Texas.

I had a 2004 (? forget exactly now) 2500 Suburban with the 8.1 liter engine. I never pushed it much in towing (5000 lb boat mostly short distances) but it was a wonderful vehicle.

I saw a couple of news articles mention this idea of a new-generatoin HD 'Burb. It mentioned that the previous version had a tow rating of ..... wait for it ...... 3000 pounds. So, worthless for us. I have no idea why it is so low.

GM's target customer for these are upfitters who are going to turn them into armored cars by adding a ton (give or take) of armor.

AND could pass anything on the road except a GAS STATION.

(All tow vehicles share that characteristic to some degree, but 14 mpg could only be achieved when NOT towing while going downhill with a brisk tailwind. I seek the holy grail - a tow vehicle that can get 20 mpg or slightly more when not towing.)

Chevrolet Suburban HD coming?

In a very limited personal circumstance, my 2012 4x4 Crew cab short bed V6 Toyota Tacoma hauls my AS ‘just fine’ at around 10-12 MPG and gets up to 22 MPG unladen...but I tend to drive like a little old lady when my dear wife is aboard...in the interest of peace and quiet.

I resemble that remark...we've done much better. 👍

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

For a number of years, we towed Lucy with 3/4 ton Suburbans. Both were Quadrasteer and both had the 6.0 liter gasoline V8. One was a 2004 2WD and the other was a 2005 4WD. Both got around 11 MPG with Lucy in tow. Both did their job well, but were not great. I never realized what great towing was until I got a Duramax, but I digress.

The reintroduction of the 2500 Suburban would be a plus for towing because the 1/2 ton Suburban payload puts it in the marginal class for the bigger Airstreams.

I have been reading that Chevrolet has started taking orders for 2021 Suburbans with the 3.0 liter Duramax. If this can be mated with a 3/4 ton chassis, they just might have themselves a tow vehicle.

Brian
