John, who is restoring the dash pad and instrument panel, came back today. He painted the dash, glove box, and door panels and he should finish the small items next week. I just had to include him in thephotos

Here are few photos of the the painted dash and glove box. The next step will be to install the windshields and paint the lower half of the body. The goal is to have those completed by the end of this month.

That looks great very nice job. Why did you change to black and did you happen to find out what epoxy he uses or what kind of plastic the dash is made of
Thanks

For the record, I did not go back with the original outside color. I went with a white, I thought it goes better with the dark blue I picked out for the stripe color.

John,
Sorry, he would tell me what he uses for the repair on the dash & plastic covers. I went with black because the dash & door panels where originally black and black matches everything. I have not pick out the materials for the carpet, seats, cushions, etc. so, I did not want a blue dash that may not match the rest of the items.

Next, they painted the center white. We still need to install the mouldings and moulding inserts (black), access doors and all the compartment locks.

A little detail on the outside mirrors. We painted the original mirror arms and purchased two new mirrors that are the same size as the original ones.

Fantastic progress! Thanks for the great pics. Nice upgrade on the mirrors. Where did you find them?

Thank you. The brand name on the mirrors is Velvac. I do not know if this brand was original, but they are still available. We ordered them from www.drillspot.com but the mirrors were shipped direct from Grainger. The new Velvac mirrors were a match to the ones that were on it.
About 95% of the trim is back on it, all the mouldings, moulding inserts, new locks, new lights and new lens, door handle, etc. A few problems, the rear clearance lights are blowing fuses, new fog lights are not working, and the batteries are going dead. I'll see if we can wash it tomorrow and post a few more photos. Thursday is goes to the glass shop for new windshields and window channel and seals.

It's so beautiful!!! You've done some amazing work.
I really like the shiny new paint job; it will be a while before we can swing that kind of expense. Hope you don't mind if I live vicariously through you for a little bit...
How is the interior coming along?

We were tent campers back in the 70s, and don't remember seeing the Argosys or Airstream motorhomes... I bet yours looks better than they did new.

Items that were on (and still on!) the to-do list this week:
1. Wire the new porch light.
2. Replace both batteries.
3. Repair short in the rear clearance lights & install lights.
4. Check all the gauges on the dash.
5. Replace the speedometer. Found one on ebay-new GM in the box.
6. Install & wire 2 new lights on the step inside the door. The holes are there, but the lights are missing.
7. Install the outside A/C cover.
8 Repair the A/C-heat switch (or cable) on the dash A/C. This turns out to be a corroded heater valve (manual), which may also mean a corroded heater core-which would have been a lot easier to replace when the engine was out.
9. Reinstall the passenger seat.
work is slow, but steady................

Congrads on your great progress. Paint looks awesome!
Would love to see how you address the heater/ac switch issue. Sometime would be great to have a 20footer meet up.

wow! Unbelievable progress on your Argosy! Great to see you do so much and come so far with it. You've given me the 'bug'! Been looking for 'my Airstream' for months now. Several to chose from, all in different states of 'dis-repair', just trying to see which one I can get for the best deal. Thanks, Derek

It would be great to have a 20footer meet up! My wife & I would like to take the Argosy MH on a Blue Ridge Parkway trip maybe next spring (ha! I first planned the trip this fall, but that will not happen!). Maybe we could meet then.
On the heater switch issue......we found a heater valve that would work, then found out the cable was broken, so we ordered a cable kit for an 60's car-three cables in the kit, we used the shortest one. The heater core is OK, that was great because it would have been difficult to replace because of it's location. Next, we found that one of the terminals on the blower switch was bad, one of our techs repaired it, but we were also able to find a replacement. It was a Ford blower switch, about '73 year model.
Next.......the dash AC was not working (new compressor because of the serpentine belt kit), so we had to replace the AC drier and expansion valve. It's still not cooling that great, but we'll come back to that later, I want to move on with the other stuff. Next on the list, window weatherstrips and seals.......I know, they should have been installed a month ago.........
A few photos taken outside after it was washed.
