Hi, No it's out about one foot; They recommend having it out this far before installing in on the truck. You need to have two people to install it. Put one hand on the front of the unit by the rail, and your other hand about two feet back on the rail. I think it might be for balance and to prevent damaging the rails while carrying it.

Hi Robert
Does this roller unit weigh very much? Also do you have a more images of it as I cannot see much with the ones you posted
Thanks
Doug

Hi, I believe that it weighs about 85 lbs. I don't know if this is actual weight or shipping weight. The pictures that I took had too much back light and when lightened they were too grainy. I borrowed these pictures. Hope this helps.

Hi, this morning I took my truck to the local Line-X shop and got my bed sprayed. This one is a family owned and run business and they have been doing it for 20 years. So they should be able to do a good job. Well it looks beautiful to me.

I ordered a 2015 F150 back in October and should be built the first week in February so should take delivery the end of Feb. Very eager for the new truck to show up and start another RV season.
Hi, unlike my Lincoln, my F-150 mirrors don't indicate that they are heated. In my owner's manual, it states that the heated mirrors turn on with the heated rear window defogger. [also known as a heated backlite] So many things, in the owner's manual, say "if equipped." But how do you know if it is equipped? Not everything is marked, obvious, or on the window sticker. LIKE HEATED MIRRORS. Well yesterday when I was going to get the bed liner sprayed, my windows and mirrors were all fogged. Like magic, my mirrors started clearing with my rear window. YES, I do have heated mirrors even though nothing, for sure, says that I do.

Hi, I would like to hear all about your new truck when you get it. Or whatever you know about it now.

The mirrors don't have a little defogger icon on them? Mine do not have a switch, but have the icon, which to me means they are defrosted when the defroster is on. The mirrors must have an electric heating element in them because I can see an odd defroster pattern on the glass when it is cold and the defroster is on. Some heated mirrors have heat ducted through the dashboard and door. This style can be detected when the door is open- you can see where the duct on the end of the dash and the corner of the door meet.

Hi, My Lincoln says "Heated" on each mirror; My F-150 does not. But they both work with the electric rear window defroster. The only heated air ducts that I have seen are to little ducts on the door panel to clear the side door windows.
Note: I borrowed these images. The top one is like my Lincoln and says "Heated". The bottom one is like my F-150 and blank.

Most if the time you can take your vin number either to the service or parts dept and they can run a build sheet. This will tell you what was on the vehicle when built. Works well when buying used also. Peace, jim
I installed the retrax pro on my longbed RAM 2500. Needed help lifting it onto the rails, but otherwise an easy one person job. Love this cover, but for two exceptions it is perfect: the rollup box takes about 10" of bed length away (it hangs from the top, so leaves about 4" gap go the bed floor), and when rolled up, it can reflect sun at the right angle, which you notice in the rear view mirror, but not when towing, just when unloaded. Otherwise, a great well made cover and very secure.
Check out two products, both made by Amp Research. One is a retracting step that folds under the rear bumper and helps when you need to step up into the truck bed. Second is a folding bed extender, great for hauling oversize cargo when the tail gate is down. When the tailgate is up, it secures cargo from rolling around in the bed, great for holding generators and propane tanks or extra fuel cans in place. Both are around $200 ea.

Hi, I haven't installed my bed cover yet so I don't have the gap measurement. Your 4"s seems like the box sits very low. Someone old me their's was more like 11"s. I'm wondering if the F-150 bed is deeper than your's and if my roll up box is smaller because I have the short bed.
I just went out and took a few measurements. My bed is 22 1/2"s deep, from the top of the rail to the bottom of the bed. My Retrax Pro roll up box is 11 1/2"s from the bottom of the rail to the bottom of the box. This should leave me with about 11"s from the bottom of the box to the bottom of the bed.

I'll have to measure to be sure, but my bed is 8' in length, which may explain why the box that holds the rolled up cover could differ in dimension. I suspect my 4" guesstimate may be off a bit.
Hi, a few friends came by this morning and we got the bed cover sitting on the bed. From there I got it in proper position and clamped in place. I later went out and installed the two drain tubes; It was 32 degrees out this morning and everything was icy. It was a bit warmer when I installed the drain tubes. The bed cover is a nice fit and works well. It also improved my gas mileage by 5 MPG. I was just testing to see if you were awake while reading this.
(1.) Not everything in this picture is white, without the frost on it. [house roof is black]
(2.) Mounted before the frost melted.
(3.) Name and number so I don't forget, or if someone else likes it they know who to call.
(4.) Finished mounting and fully retracted.
(5.) This shows one of the drain tubes; I chose to drill holes in the plastic plugs instead of the bed floor. Also note the room under the canister to the bed floor.
(6.) One of four mounting clamps.
(7.) Two empty containers an one ice chest for shopping. We always kept an ice chest in the Lincoln for cold items. [ice cream, Etc.]
(8.) Bed cover closed, tailgate open.
(9.) All closed and locked; Ready for the road.

Looks a LOT like the one I have on my 2002 Tacoma P/U. My 2012 Taco TV has a solid tonneau on it.
Looks nice. I can just get spare propane tanks under the one one TV. Little Taco is not deep enough.
You will find that sheets of plywood or plasterboard fit under the box and sit on the tailgate edge--assuming the bed is wide enough. Just a strap to hold it in and you're good to haul stuff--which is what a P/U is all about IMHO
