Towing 22 Sport with a Pathfinder

We own a 2017 4 wheel drive Pathfinder and are looking to purchase a 22 Sport. I am concerned about its abilities to pull and control it safely. One caveat is that we live in the Colorado mountains and anytime we go anywhere its a 12k foot pass we must cross. The Pathfinders current towing capacity is 6,000 lbs.

Any advice from current owners of a 22 Sport towing with a Pathfinder would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

I think a 6000 lb. towing capacity is fair at best for a 22' Sport Bambi. We own a 22' Sport Bambi and tow with a Mercedes ML350 with a towing capacity of 7200 lbs. Conventional wisdom indicates that you should have at least 1000 lbs. more towing capacity than the weight you are towing. Plus you have to climb 12K feet frequently. Good luck!

Have seen many times use 80% rule. I tow 22 (4500 max) with Highlander (5000 max) with WD hitch. I pack to about 4200 max and take it easy and have not had any problems going to Mammoth

Will a Subaru Ascent, rated with towing capacity of 5,000 lbs and tongue weight of 500 lbs. be enough to tow an A/S 22 FB Sport (GVWR of 4,500 lbs. and tongue weight of 422 lbs)? On paper, it looks to be okay but I’m not sure if it will be enough to take on mountain climb and hill descent. YouTube RVers seem to advise for tougher tow vehicles. Complicating matters is my desire to add on rockguard, extra battery, and motor jack. A/S say it’ll add about 85 to 90 lbs to tongue weight but that I could offset it by getting rear bumper installed. Thoughts appreciated ....
