Audi Q5 towing capabilities?!?
Hello everyone,
My wife and I just purchased a new Bambi 16' and thought that our 2018 Audi Q5 2.0L would pull it cross country just fine. After reading as many of these threads as we could and talking to our local Audi dealer we're more confused than ever. Where I think we've landed is that we'd be better off with either a Q5 with a V6, 3.0, or move up to a Q7, even if it's used, just to get it down into our price range. Some say that the Q5, no matter the engine, is on just too small a platform (A4), others say it can handle up to the 4,400 lb towing capacity just fine.
Any experience you've had with an Audi Q5 towing a 16' Bambi, or similar, cross country (to visit our grandchildren in CA) would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Peter

I don't have personal experience with the smaller Q5 but you should talk to this guy.
Remember, Audi wouldn't tell you it could pull 4400lbs if it couldn't. I think the 2.0T would be plenty for the 16' but the best way to find out is to try it. If you don't like it, upgrade!

Audi Q5 would be considered quite sizeable tow vehicle in Europe and (depending on the engine is rated to tow up to 5,300 lbs). Some people cannot understand that there are other options to tow besides trucks and they feel the need to share a lot of nonsense. Please get through this noise, do your proper research. I survived this phase when I heard that I will be pushed from the road by the first semi, would crash bus full of children, etc. and I am extremely happy with my choice.

We have a Q5 TDI that we pull a 13ft tandem axle box trailer loaded and it does an amazing job. I had to install the brake controller myself as Audi did not know how but I love the way it adjust the steering ratio and transmission shift points. Of course the TDI is a monster as well. I would not hesitate if I was you, other than maybe getting a diesel. That being said we have a Classic Airstream we tow with an F250 diesel, but the Classic is much larger.

Audi Q5 TDI TV
I’ve been towing a 2017 Bambi 16 with my Audi Q5 (2015, TDI) for two years, and it works great. Audi’s are quiet, comfortable, athletic vehicles and are (in my opinion) a perfect match for the smaller Airstreams.

we have a q5 and been pulling a 22Fb sport
we have ordered a 22/23 FC 25FB . Andy at CANAM stated "no issues" . we have had our receiver ungraded to pull the higher tongue weight.
give canam RV a call and they can explain what the real limitations are

Hi
Here is a YouTube link to a towing seminar Andy Thomson put on. I previously was a believer in always needing a truck as a tow vehicle. Andy opened my eyes to the science behind towing a trailer.
