Any vintage Suburban owners out there?
We just purchased a 1964 Chevy Suburban to restore to use to tow our '64 Bambi II. Can anyone recommend any good sources for parts or point us in the direction of any good Suburban forum links.

hey cool apache, what size is it? 15 or 25?
straight six?
manual or auto?
must be 2wd as the 4wd's are very rare, i think nipco did the conversions for the dealers.
did i say way cool?

Thanks! My heart is still pounding over this find! I really like the ambulance-style doors in the rear rather than the wagon type rear door option. The vehicle actually can seat 8 people (3 in front; 3 in middle; and two in the rear). Parts are easy to get for this year too so that part of the restoration process should be easy.
The engine is the standard high torque 230 six. It is a manual with a 3-speed on the column; 2wd.

Thanks! Did I tell you it still runs?! The gentleman we purchased it from was still using it to drive back and forth to work.

i assume it is a standard ten bolt, 3.55 perhaps.

Thinking about what color to paint it...
We are thinking about a two-color combination with perhaps blue on the bottom and white on top. I saw one done in yellow and white that I like too. Decisions...decisions...

Not sure about that...didn't count them. The radiator does have a small leak though so I'm assuming we will need to replace it.

Silver & white - I envy your find. Inline six chevy engines are one of the best, smooth, running engines there is.

indigo blue and silver would look good with any airstream imho.
the one on the bottom of your pics looks close.
this is what the reverse would look like.

Silver and white...I like it! A friend of mine mentioned doing it in silver or pewter but I thought the all pewter would be too much with the silver trailer. I think the silver and white would be nice, though.

Yuki, check up the pics from the Jan '07 Fla Can Opener rally. The person who came to teach and demo polishing pulled his dazzlingly polished vintage Airstream with a terrific vintage Suburban. I'm sure you'll find the combo caught in some pics from that thread. ~G

Yes, that would be Herb (jbond on the forums.) He has a vintage Suburban that looks awesome with his restored vintage Globetrotter. Congratulations on such a great find!

Mel and her hubby bought one a year or so ago with a big block Chevy engine in it. It looks pretty decent. There was one at the Deming, WA TCT event last August from Coguitlam, BC that had a V6 in it - a very unique engine I'd never seen before and I've seen a lot of engines. Anyways, he was going to pull it and put a larger engine, likely a 350 V8, in as it just didn't have the power he needed to pull his vintage very light SOB. These are really neat tow vehicles and when done up they make great touring units. Very multi-purpose. I'll go back to some of my older files and find a few of the places that supply parts for these years of trucks and fire them off to you as I find them.
Enjoy, and pics of the resto will be greatly enjoyed.
