All Things Toyota and Lexus: The Official Thread, Photos, Info and General Chit chat

We have a lot of people pulling Airstreams with Toyota and Lexus vehicles.

The purpose of this thread is for the discussion of any Toyota, Lexus or Hino vehicles.

Over the last 20 years there have really only been a handful of motors out of Toyota that are tow worthy. Those motors were available on several different vehicles.

For the most part we will be talking about the following motors:

3.4 V6 (ex. early 2000's 4Runners, Tacomas and Tundras)
4.0 V6 (ex. 2005+ 4runners, Tacomas and Tundras)
4.7 V8 (ex. pre 2007/8 Landcruisers, LXs, Tundras, 4runners, GXs and Sequoias)
5.7 V8 (ex. 2007/8+ Tundras, Landcruisers, LXs and Sequoias)
4.6 V8 (ex. 2008+ Tundras and GXs)
3.5 V6 (ex. 2016+ Tacomas)

2022 will usher in a new Tundra and motor to discuss as well.

Show Off your Toyota or Lexus Tow Combo
Let's Discuss Motors, transmissions, driving tips, failure points, payload limitations and maintenance items.

Feel free to discuss any Toyota or Lexus Unibody vehicles here as well.

I'm very happy with the performance of my 2004 4Runner and its 4.7L V8. I hope it lasts a long time.

Nice looking setup, I love the 4th gen 4Runners. How many miles do you have on it? I bet that 4runer is a rocket ship when your unhitched.

So far we are very happy with my 2014 Tundra and 2018 FC25FB. Interestingly, I was just at our local Toyota dealer here in Texas and inquired about the new 2022 Tundras, and the plan is to still assemble the new Tundras with the 3.5 bi-turboV6 in San Antonio, Texas. Approximately 45% of the vehicle parts are sourced from US manufacturers, and the remaining (including engine) is from Japanese manufacturers.

Here is my Tundra and Airstream.

Mileage is 126K. I bought it in 2003 and drove it to work about once a week. People in the neighborhood would offer to buy it from me, saying it was just sitting there most of the time. I said it's waiting for me to retire.

Something that took a while to get used to was 1st gear. In normal driving I think you go about 15-20 feet before it shifts to second; really a low gear. Even pulling my 17' fiberglass boat it's got power, went from 50 to 90 in the passing lane when it was new; surprised me. It has 320 ft lbs. torque. It does well pulling the 23' AS too, but I baby her when on the road. Full time 4WD with transfer case. I put it into the low transfer last week for the first time, just out of curiosity.

Lots of pickup, quiet inside, very stylish and matches the AS.

Liking this thread and great looking setups from everyone. As much as I indulge in the variety of manufacturers and cars out there, when it comes to a reliable and capable workhorse, to get me there and back, Toyota and Lexus has my vote.

LX570 with the 5.7L, 383HP 403 lb-ft. Towing modifications include an aux fuel tank from Australia, expanding fuel capacity to 38 gallons. Re-geared and big brakes to support 35x12.5 tires. 4" lift on demand.

Towing an '07 27FB Ocean Breeze. 3" lift with Dexter blocks and upsized 235/75R15 tires, among many other modifications, to better support boondocking.

I have a soft spot for the 4th Gen 4R V8 as well. Had a Limited V8 4x4 4R, that SUV surely emphasized the Sports part of Sports Utility Vehicle. Closest thing today is the Lexus GX470/GX460 which is another fine rig.

Unfortunately, the 300 series Land Cruiser is NOT coming to the American market . The last 200 models were built in March. The 300s are shipping to other places.

I acquired a December 2020 build 2021 Silver Land Cruiser model 200. It took months, but my Australian 12.5 gallon auxiliary tank finally got here and is installed above the spare which hangs down a bit but higher than the bottom ofi the rear differential. While there, installed Firestone in the spring coil air bags We installed a Tuson RV brake controller.

In transit from Indiana after getting Ziebart undercoating and clear ceramic window film on all the windows for insulation.

We installed new 3,600 pound axles with 3” lift and 12” dual piston disc brakes on our 2015 23D International Serenity which required new six lug SenDel wheels for our 25” Michelin tires. Next week hope to hook using the new ProPride hitch on the 23D. It worked fine behi d the 2012 Ram 2500HD Cummins we also use to tow outr 31’ 2014 Classic.

Will check back next week

It is unfortunate the Land Cruiser will no longer be with us in the US. In America since 1958, IIRC, it's the longest standing nameplate in Toyota's USDM lineup with 63 years of lineage now.

Not all is lost though. Lost in name but not in spirit, the 300-series will soldier on in the US as the Lexus LX600. Toyota is going to chase after the ultra high end market with this model. Anchoring its tough and capable body-on-frame lineup at the top, it will be the halo to assert Toyota/Lexus dominance across the expansive line of SUVs and trucks.

Interested how the TNGA architecture will carry through the rest of the refreshed model lineup.

I am intrigued by the Lexus LX600. It may come with the all new V8 turbo engine. Rumors are it will come in three models, Standard LX600, Sport LX600 and VIP LX600. It's unclear whether the LX600 VIP will actually be another variant offered to the public, or whether it is special order for governments and security groups, because its a fully armoured and protected version – with the current LX570 being a very popular vehicle for bullet-proof upgrades across the globe.

The order spec sheet cut out I saw for the LX600 only showed the v6 turbo option, same power plant as the LC300.

I expect that the Lexus badged LX600 to be fundamentally the same as the LC300 with the exception of having that (personal opinion)
awful Lexus front end grill [emoji4]

All speculation at this point… we shall see soon enough.
