Airbags and Towing with Car

On my last camping trip one of the airbags connected to the my wagon's rear suspension self-leveling system split (wrong bag was in the coil spring). We went on the trip anyway, but the handling when towing in no way resembled the excellent towing that had been before. I have since then replaced the airbags with the correct red Airlift bags for the Wagon (previously had black Impala SS bags with a different Airlift part number), and it is back to towing like a dream.

I know the difference between good and bad towing performance thanks to towing an SOB all over Mexico with a big International Travelall and a primitive equalizer hitch (many, many moons ago . . . bad towing), years of towing a tent-trailer with a car (so-so towing) and more years of towing a loaded 3-horse Sooner trailer with both 2WD and 4WD 3/4 ton Suburbans and a correct hitch (good towing).

As mentioned many times by others, good vehicle and hitch set-up are a must for safe towing. What I learned is how critical airbags are to proper set-up, at least on my car.
