AeroShield wind deflector

I just saw an ad in RV News for the AeroShield wind deflector. Went onto icondirect.com for some info. I know these things were popular back in the 70's but have seen them much lately. Just wondering if anyone in the Airstream community has used one.

I don't have one and I don't know anyone who has one but that won't keep me from sharing my thoughts on the issue. This is akin to the discussion about taking off your tailgate to get better mileage. Some would drive about with the tailgate down, some would remove it altogether. The claim was better airflow. The reality, after many engineering tests were done is that you actually get better mileage with the tailgate in place. They design trucks to be as aerodynamic as possible. Open the gate and you mess up the design. Adding a topper actually did improve things depending on what kind of topper you put on.

An Airstream is designed to be aerodynamic. When you add things, like I did when attaching my bike rack, you mess with the design and you most likely will reduce your mileage. I know I lost about 1 mpg when I added the rack. So......my reaction would be, it isn't going to help and will most likely hurt. Those who pull the big white box down the road might have different results.

I'd consider one for a fifth wheel.
For an Airstream, nah.

Not all that useful on an AS.

POI... for icondirect, they are a Canadian Co.
I bought an AC cover from them, they sent one that I couldn't use, I finally persuaded them to issue an RA and I would pay shipping. They knew I wouldn't return because without the shipping discount they get my return shipping would be $125+US on a $98 cover.🥴

I wasn't so much thinking about fuel savings as I was saving the front of the trailer.

Yes...the original prototype.

The newest MacGyver model will have a red LED at the end. TBA
