Heyyy, are you calling our MDX a grandma car ?! [emoji70]

Now she drivers a GMC 3/4 ton truck and might go to a 1 ton in the future
That won’t stop any better. Never trust anyone on an entrance ramp.

I use 4 wheel drive often while towing. It lets me avoid wheel spin on grass or gravel. I can also shift to 4 low to get better gearing for moving the trailer slowly. I don't know how the SH-AWD does towing. What's your opinion?

I think you need to re-evaluate your opinion:

It’s ok, their cars are not as good as their big trucks. I supported a fleet of Volvo cars for years. Gave up with all the issues, and went to Toyota-only fleet. And Toyota makes FINE trucks!!

I towed our Safari up into the “4 wheel drive only” section of Endless Caverns Campground in Virginia and was able to stop on the gravel incline and then start pulling forward again without tire spin. I had a split second of spin up our driveway until the SH-AWD directed most of the power to the rear wheels. Too new at this to tell but that’s my experience so far.

They make heavy-duty trucks for the world market, as well.

Georgia has some new toll lane roads in the Atlanta area. Note that vehicles pulling s trailer of any type are not allowed in the toll lanes. It’s an automatic ticket .

How about in lieu of people conjecturing what they think TVs will do in this thread, we stick to what our TVs do and perhaps the stories behind why we chose our TVs? The whole debate of pickup truck is overkill vs. any car can tow with the right hitch setup has pretty well played itself out. What I appreciate most in this forum is real world experience and I use the data points of all of you as well as my own experience as the input to my decisions and actions.

That sounds like the revenue generating express/HOV lanes that if you pay the toll, you can use to get through traffic faster. We have them here in CA and more are being constructed. But the practice of not traveling in lane #1 keeps you out of that problem. Pat

Now you're changing the conditions of your statement to support your opinion.

I’m not sure why you are being obtuse. I responded to a post by @tojimmiller who was talking about 3/4 and 1 ton pickups, not a autonomous semi. Perhaps you were joshing.

Just got back from the mothership. Took our safari in today for servicing and also I did replace the Goodyear marathon tires. They were four years old and airstream also suggested that I replace them since they can look perfectly fine but still have a blowout. They were surprised I got four years out of them stating that they stopped using those “cheap Chinese-made tires“. They did not have the Michelin‘s in the size of my wheels so I got the Goodyear endurance tires. The ride back home was fine but the Safari seemed a little bouncy and not quite as stable. They set the pressure at 80 psi. Has anyone set the tire pressure lower and this make a difference in the ride? The factory is 2 1/2 hours from where we live and we were moving along fairly quickly. My wife agreed that the sweet spot for the MDX seems to be fourth gear at 4000 RPM on the highway. Good acceleration power at that RPM and no slow down on mild grades. That did run as at 73-75 mph and gas mileage was an abysmal 9 miles per gallon.Click image for larger version

Set ours at 70psi cold, using our weight from the load table, running at 74 on the TPMS. Plan on doing a short ride-along using the ActionCam to confirm.

...we never tow at that speed...no need. 😳

Thanks Bob. I guess we were ready to get home. I’ll try 70psi. I put the question out to Andrew T. as well. I don’t have a TPMS yet. How much are they? Any recommendations?

20 mph over the Ohio towing speed limit and 1000 lbs over the vehicle tow rating @ sustained 4000 RPM.
Yikes.

I have the GYEs on my 27 ft FC, set to 75 psi cold, and the trailer *seems* to run a little smoother than it did with the Marathons, set at 65 psi, but it's hard to quantify. I try to keep the speed at 65 mph or under.
