I think you are confusing tow rating and payload rating. Adding accessories reduces payload rating, not tow rating.

No confusion here . Both the tow rating and payload drop as the vehicle is outfitted with more options . Check the tow rating and payload of the base Tundra 2 door and the tow rating and payloads of the SR5 double cab and the crew max and the hybrid and you will see how it works .
In my case the weight of the bolted on accessories just made the empty weight of my Tundra higher thus reducing the tow rating and payload by that amount .

On most (not all) vehicles they subtract the vehicle weight plus usually 150 lbs for the driver and 75 lbs for a hitch from the Max Combined Vehicle Weight Rating to get the max trailer weight rating. This means most vehicles loose trailer weight capacity for every pound over 225lbs added to the vehicle.

Sorry for being dense. How did you arrive at that conclusion? Is it in the manual? How did you decide to reduce it pound for pound? It sounds like you're equating "tow rating" to "payload" and that's my sticking point.

There does seem to be some differences in the capacity and payload as you move up the trim levels. There doesn't seem to be a logical percentage. I think the towing capacity goes from 12,000 lbs to <11,000 lbs as you move up the line with the Capstone having a lower value. The payload seems to go from 1,500 lbs to about 1,300 lbs.
There must be some sort of formula that Toyota uses.

If your truck’s tow capacity is the GCWR minus the curb weight and SAE allowance for driver, passenger, and hitch, then it would be a 1:1 ratio. Toyota has much more simple steps in their trims. With Ford, there is no clear core election between trim and tow rating. But also my technical tow rating is greater than my GCWR minus my truck’s curb weight, so the theoretical tow rating is meaningless. Then again, the SAE allowance for driver, passenger, and hitch also make the max tow rating meaningless for real world use.

Payload 1500 lbs minus 150 lbs for driver minus 75 lbs for hitch leaves max 1275 lbs for 10% tongue weight, leaves max trailer weight 12,750 lbs or less.
Payload 1300 lbs minus 150 lbs for driver minus 75 lbs for hitch leaves max 1075 lbs for 10% tongue weight, leaves max trailer weight 10,750 lbs or less.
Other factors can make it less. This is only a small part of the formula.

If u have a weight distribution hitch and your Tundra has significant sag in the rear, the person that installed the hitch doesn’t know what they are doing. Find a good hitch guy

Just returned from Texas last evening. 2300 miles! Tundra peformed well. Comfortable, even under load. Towed 23FBQ with equalizer hitch. Propane tanks full, lithium batteries were moved to under the bed. Only one episode of minimal sway; had to pass an 18 wheeler that couldn't stay at one speed on the hills. Got up to 75 mph and noticed a little sway that was not a problem. The rest of the time I was at 65-68 mph. Got 11 mph average. Did not notice any porpoising. All in all was an easy tow. So far so good. Unfortunately, a couple drawers fell out during the trip, I40 was a rough interstate at spots! First trip in a couple weeks. Will weigh it fully loaded and if there are any issues will post. Wife is pretty excited!

2023 Tundra hybrid
We have a 2023 Toyota Tundra i-FORCE MAX Platinum. GVWR (7660#) minus weighed curb weight (6160#) gave me 1500# payload (door sticker says 1305# but I think they include a driver or some factor of safety). We ended up going with a 23’ International vs. 25’ or 27’ due to hitch weight limit. The 23’ gives me plenty extra capacity to use the bed for stuff whereas I’d be right on the line with the others.
Me, wife, dog: 450#
WeatherTech Bed Cover: 50#
Blue Ox: 100#
This leaves only 900# for hitch weight.
We went with the 23’ (~650# hitch weight camper loaded) giving me 250# to spare payload wise.

Sounds like a great setup. Did you confirm the tongue weight with a scale of some sort? A sherline scale would be handy to double check this approximate weight.
