This is true. All of the brochures/website specifically state that tow mirrors are not included with any of the tow packages and are a separate add-on.

We now own a King Ranch with the Max Tow package. The 3.5 Ecoboost with 10 speed transmission and Max Tow is a good combination. Some of the towing capacity is debated because 2WD vs 4WD changes the numbers.

I wanted a SuperDuty 250 Diesel but I also wanted a Airstream so we had to look at the reality of not being full timers and not towing more than 6000 lbs with a 23D

We saved thousands of dollars on a left over 2018. It had everything I wanted EXCEPT for the camping mirrors. Why dealers spec out a truck with the max tow package but do not add the towing mirrors is hard to understand?

My only comment is to use a full synthetic oil. Those turbos will COOK and stress dinosaur oil.

Perfect timing as I am currently in a two week trip with my brand new 2018 F150 and my 2008 27í FB Classic, going from Eastern Oregon to Red Lodge Montana and back. I traded a 2013 for the 2018. Major difference is changing from a 3.73 ratio to a 3.55. The new rig has a 10 speed trany and max tow package. My assessment so far is that it does ok, but feels really ďdoggyĒ compared to my 3.73 2013. Iím getting about 15% better mileage, but perceived performance is absolutely less than the 2013 3.73 6 speed trany. Plus, my payload is almost 175 lbs less. On the plus side, my non-towing mileage has improved from 15 mpg to almost 19 and I tow only 25% of the time, so I think the trade off was worth it. If I had it to do again, I would buy the 250 diesel and be done with it.

Get tow mirrors as they are not included in tow or max tow after 2014 or 2015 and I would get the 36 gallon tank

Finally Hit the Road!

Guys i just wanted to thank you all again for your help. I finally got to hit the road this weekend. We headed from Seattle to eastern washington. The Expedition was amazing! We went over 3 passes and it was like the AS was not even there. It was actually fun driving and after the first hour on the highway i really got to know when to pass and how to use the mirrors. backing up was a whole other issue even with the Ford Backup Assist. Unfortunately the sun was so bright the computer could not see the sticker to help with the back up and i had to do it manually (go figure) so with about 30 people watching the new guy with a shinny airstream and new expedition i managed to get it into the spot with only 20 tries I just need to practice and hope it gets better.

Long store short i highly recommend the Expedition with the heavy tow package if anyone is wanting a SUV as a tow vehicle.

What did the tow package get you with the Expedition?

I have this on the top of my short list to replace my 14-year-old Suburban, so Iím very interested in your experience with your new rig.

And what might the payload be?

The one Expedition I looked at had a payload of about 1,500 pounds, but I donít know if thatís typical.

Brad, I’m glad the Expedition worked out. Our kids traveled for 4-1/2 months with four kids pulling a 28 International Signature around the country. We even joined them for 10 days - yep that’s right, eight people in an Expedition by day and in a 28 IS at night and we’re still talking to one another! It’s a great vehicle.

WhereStream I got the Heavy Tow Package and its the XLT model. Very important that you get an Expedition with that package. The standard tow package is about 5000 lbs which won't work for any of us. the Heavy Tow Package can tow 9200.
On the Ford website the specs are
Axle Ratio (for the 4x4) GCWR 15,200 Max Loaded Trailer Weight 9200 lbs

Here is the link to the spec page -

im not 100% sure what the payload is i need to look at the sticker on the door. But 1200 to 1500 sounds about right which is way more then i need.
I have to say i was so pleased with how it handled at 70 mph on the highway while towing at times i forgot i had the AS back there
