Pat, good luck on the truck! I just saw you're in Montgomery, we are too! We should definitely get together talk Airstreams! I've got a 2012 "new to me" 2500 Duramax. If you want to hook up to it and pull your trailer around a bit you are welcome to! The torque will put a smile on your face for sure, but I know payload is at the top of your list. Can't recall where mine is with it, but I just weighed it last weekend and could do the math on the door sticker pretty quick. I'll be glad to help out anyway I can!

Thanks Dave! Can ask what the maximum weight is on your door sticker? Mine is 1950.

We have a 2015 Silverado 2500 Duramax LTX Z71 4X4 and love it. Had a 2500 gasser before this one and though it pulled our 34’ OK, it worked hard in the Smokey mountains... The diesel does not - can hardly tell the 34’ is behind us. I also use the truck as my “daily driver” and enjoy it a great deal - in town, I average 16-17mpg.
We just got back from a 6500 mile trip (averaged 14mpg towing), the later part through the mountains in New Mexico. The truck performed flawlessly and pulled with confidence. Coming down the mountains was also easy using the exhaust brakes - never had to worry about brakes overheating, etc.. That alone made mountain driving more pleasant...
If you can get a screaming deal on the Denali, DO IT! You won’t regret the decision.

I tow a 25' with a 2500 Dodge. I like towing with the heavy diesel. I would love a new 2500 Duramax. I can not think of a reason not to go to it if you want a more capable TV..

Wait till about February.
Let them sell 3 of the 4 first, then go buy the last one.
Then you will get the lowest possible price.

Look for leftover Chevy Silverado High Country, too.
Essentially the same truck badged differently.

We bought a Densali Duramax 2500 in September after we had s hard time going over the Teton Pass this summer with our 2013 Denali SUV. We love it and it ties great!

Based on your updated profile you have the 5.3L Sierra with Max Trailering Package. The 5.3L, while highly acclaimed by many on this forum, obviously has less HP and torque than the 6.2L. The 2500 will have more payload according to the GM web site and will have much more torque than either the 5.3L or 6.2L. If pulling power is your concern, upgrading to the 6.2L in the 1500 series will help with that while maintaining good day-to-day driving characteristics. If payload (and pulling power) is the concern then upgrading to the 2500 seems like the right decision.
I'm not a big fan of the Denali package - too many gizmos and proverbial bells & whistles - but your tastes may be different.

I honestly can't "feel" the difference in the 6.2 and 5.3, although the 6.2 is rated at over 400 hp and over 400 ft. lbs. torque.

Sucks to be you, I guess. There's a pretty big feel difference. (tongue in cheek on first part)

I have the 5.3 in my 2009 Silerado, along with the Allison transmission, and on the steep grades in S OR and N Calif. I go up at 30-35 mph. That's why my next truck will be a 2500 duramax.

Realize that the 09 5.3 and 6.2 for that matter are Gen 4 engines with quite a bit less HP and torque than their Gen 5 counterparts. That said, even today, I probably would opt for a 6.2L for 25'ers and up.

Pat- good luck and please keep us posted. I love the ride of the new Silverado 1500 with 6.2 and 8 speed during my test drives. It is definitely a nice ride with plenty HP and torque. Trailer package including breaking assist is nice. They are hard to find with a super-crew, short bed, HD tow package with the 2039lb payload. Limited 26 gal fuel tank also. The dealer in Bastrop I know well, told us Chevy had cut back on building the 2017s for awhile (thus the limited inventory), but they are cranking them out now. Discounts are not as big savings as on 2500's, but for me, the 2500 overkill and not a good daily driver for us; and hard to park in most parking lots. Rumor is they are going to aluminum going forward...like the Fords.

I really can't "feel" the difference in the GM 6.2 and my Tundra 5.7.
In fact, my Tundra "feels" more responsive and snappy.
I also can't feel a nickel's worth of difference in my Tundra 5.7 and the GM 6.6 Duramax/Allison.
My Tundra feels better in some ways.
