550# of torque. 12000# tow rating (to the SAE standard) and a 2000# payload. The guy they lured from Ram who heads Nissan's truck works said in an interview they were aiming for more than a half ton but less than a three quarter ton.
If I can get another year out of my ancient 2004 Titan, I will definitely be going for a test drive next year at this time.

That's the sweet spot for many, as current 1/2 tons don't make the cut for many, and not everybody wants to deal with a heavy 3/4 truck. Lets call it 5/8 truck

Nice specs, still can't fix a hideous design. Now we wait and see if the Toyota rumors prove true and they enter this small narrow market.
Dear lord, what is going on with that interior? Busy much. No consistency what so ever.
So if this falls the Titan model, this should be the same truck till 2025 right?
It's an interesting gamble, one they might lure new customers too. If the comments like the one above are any gauge. I see this quite a bit around here. Although I suspect Toyota could be a stronger contender in creating a segment.
Interestingly enough, GM was offering a 1500HD for awhile. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrol...ado#Heavy_duty

Looks like a Ford except for the grill. Too bad, I would have thought they could do better. Nice weight and towing specs, however.

With changes this is the motor Dodge was going to run in the half ton per pre 2008 planning. Even had assembly line mocked up.
No A/S or vintage kin needs more. My CTD is 305/555 and its overpowered. Too bad a V8 is pretty well limited to an auto trans.

They did a Tundra type re-style. Changed a little sheet metal. The cab is the same. They changed the body lines on the bed and changed the front cap a little. The introduction of a diesel engine option is the most significant thing they did. I'm still a Tundra fan boy. The Titan is even more overdue for a total re-style.

I don't think I want to go smaller to a 5 liter from my 6.7. There is no such thing as too much horsepower or too much money.

2015 Nissan With A Cummins
Even if the power to weight ratio is better? Will probably smoke your straight six, especially with a modern automatic. Being a Cummins it is unlikely to be less than reliable.
I don't care that it'll be faster than my CTD, but that it's in a heavy half ton. A made to order spec for any A/S ever built.

I remember that cummins built a 903 V8 265 hp for a big truck and a 555 ,triple nickel which was 225 hp used in smaller trucks both were v8 and were real short lived, the one 's I were around were junk..the only good V8 big truck engine I remember was the cat 3408 at that time they produced 500 hp up ,back then fuel was cheap. Unless things change I will have to keep driving the inline 6 for 2-3 more years, then I will be ready for a new one, another I 6 , maybe they will produce a four banger.......no such thing as too much horsepower or money.....

I'm beginning to be a little skeptical of many of these truck manufacturer's towing and payload specs.
This 1/2 ton Nissan has 300lbs less payload than my Ram 2500, and has 2500lbs more towing capacity with 250lb/ft less torque.
My old Daddy would say, "That dog don't hunt".

This new Nissan is only interesting to me because it will have the 5.0L V8 Cummins. The payload and towing numbers they are throwing out there are pretty impressive. After seeing what it looks like, I'm happy I didn't wait for it before purchasing my RAM 1500 diesel.
Steve,
I wonder how your RAM would fare in the J2807 tests. Like many others, I think it sounds underrated.

Hey there Steve I also believe manufactures will do anything to sell something. In the big truck market the buyer is testing the new product, Besides I would have to wear dark glasses.....

While it's not at all applicable to the half-ton Nissan, Cummins has built seriously long-lived and capable big-truck engines for a long time, like the 855 and the L-series. Are you talking just about V8s?

I was talking of the old obsolete V8 cummins, they were not very good...The engine dodge uses was designed by a group of engineers from dodge ,ford was involved as was cummins and case and several other equipment manufactures and they give it to cummins as they are known world wide. I always had Cats and never had any problems unlike the old 855's which had head bolts breaking, broken crankshafts leaking head gaskets, all that has now changed.........

Given that the 5.0 Cummins is untested, I'd feel better buying Ram's VM Motori-supplied diesel (if I was in the market for a half ton). Time will tell.

I am kind of surprised that you prefer the Italian engine. I am not a diesel guy but even I have always heard that Cummins built seriously fine power plants.
But, time will tell...

Yeah I just don't get the Japanese in the truck market, back in the early 2000's when the new Tundra and Titan hit the market they where game changers, but it feels like both Toyota and Nissan are slow to offer real changes and think of truck buyers as stupid Americans when the big 3 have all made huge improvements in the last 5 years, especially in terms of design and build quality and materials used.
Whew, that was a run on sentence.

That's because they aren't Japanese at all. It is designed in California and manufactured in Mississippi. These trucks are most likely not even exported to Japan.
