2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee - advice?

I'm going to be getting a Sport 22fb [4500 max load]. Jeep says that my Jeep can tow 6200, so I'm well under. Any advice or other considerations I need to properly prep my Jeep.

Thanks for any input.

A proper WD hitch is a must.

That. With sway control. Don't go cheap.

Check the tires

Our 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee was outfitted with 2 ply tires from purchase. You may need to retrofit to a more tow friendly set.

Congrats!!!
Your TV will do great! Because of the air suspension, take extra time setting up the WD hitch to account for the compensation that the air will add. This is important in setting up the static and ride heights to achieve level. Make sure that there is a difference in "stance" between connected and disconnected up at the frond end of the TV, the distance between the front tires and the top of the inner fender well needs to be lower when connected thus exhibiting the "weight distribution". Don't be afraid to increase the tension (chain height) on the WD hitch to get more distribution, and test drive several times in a safe area.

I agree that adding anti-sway is a must.

I will let everyone else tell you what brand to buy as this is another animal in itself!

Happy Airstreaming!

Jeep GC

Welcome to Jeep / AS ...... I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Larado E package : 6 cylinder / Pentastar engine with the 8 speed transmission.

We have a 2016.. 22FB with an equalizer hitch and added a brake controller. Mounting the brake controller is a bit of a issue, always seems to be in the way of my knee on exit.. I do not have the air lift system and have no need.

We have traveled about 8,000 miles in two years, Adirondacks, Catskills, Appalachians, Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive. No issues to speak of. I do wish I had a little more torque on the long grades through WV.
Learn how to use your paddle shifters, great asset on downgrades. Going up the Jeep will shift on it's own, don't force the shifts. (I did have my jeep dealer reprogram the trans for a better shifting pattern, they use a laptop, cost was about $80.00) gives a bit more power entering the expressways.
We averaged 16.5 mpg going 3,000 miles through the Appalachians and NC last summer.

Contact me on private message if you have any specific questions. Enjoy the ride... Dave from New Jersey

More thoughts

NEPAstreamin, some additional thoughts:

I, like you, spoke with a factory rep before we purchased the AS, My Jeep was not equipped with the factory tow package...( not sure if yours has a tow package ? ). No worry, he explained the Larado's are fitted with an oversize engine cooler, if you look up under your rear bumper the wiring harness is attached with a tie-wrap and ready to be dropped down for use. you will need to buy a 7 point connector/ Camping World or Chrysler
( $30.00) and attach to your rear bumper, kills me to drill holes , but that's camping...
If you do not have a tow package you will need to have your electric hookup, turned on or ... flashed.... as they call it. cost about $80.00, my dealer did it as part of the trans adjustment I mentioned earlier, done with a lap top ( gotta love technology_)

Jeep rep explained that the factory includes most of Tow Package as part of the original build, but doesn't advertise. Its cheaper to include some equipment on each unit than to change.... I added a hitch for $300.00. Considering the Tow Package is a $3,5000 upgrade, I figure I did okay.
We have traveled the Appalachians in 99* heat and the trans temp stayed between 193* - 200* and the Engine temp never went above 220*..... these temps the factory rep was comfortable with. He explained the trans should not go above 220* for and extended period.

I have over 40,000 miles of towing experience with my 2014 Jeep GC Ecodiesel Summit (3.0 l engine and 8 speed transmission with the factory tow package) and 23 FB AS, including many mountain ranges across the USA snd Canada. Though it is a diesel, I assume much of the rest is similar. We use an Equalizer hitch and Protege 3 brake controller.

This has been a fantastic rig for us. The only downside us payload capacity. Be sure to check your weights on a CAT scale and match against your door sticker on the Jeep. We typically weigh about 5,500 lbs for the AS (6,000 is max allowed) and 6,500 lbs. for the Jeep. But we can carry very little in the Jeep to stay under the 6,800 total allowable weight for the Jeep.

We are rock solid on the Interstate and experience no sway with semis passing in either direction. The paddle shifters are terrific for controlling downhill speeds and I try to stay off the brakes. We have 102,000 total miles on the Jeep and 50% brake wear on original brakes according to my mechanic whi recently checked them.

We love the comfort and versatility of the Jeep GC. I sometimes consider a pickup to increase payload, but we have opted to manage our payload weight thus far. Our trips have typicallt bern 1-3+ months in duration, including multiple weather zones requiring various clothing and gear.

Wishing you wonderful travels!

We have a 2018 22FB named “Hiyo Silver” and tow with a 2015 Grand Cherokee LTD. Factory tow package, but like mentioned before, the inner workings are already there, you just have to add the cosmetics. We have a Prodigy P2 brake controller and an Equal-I-zer hitch.

It tows like a dream. Highway gas mileage drops to about 14, but we have never had an issue.

I happily tow a 25’ FC with a Dodge Durango (which is an extended version of the Grand Cherokee). Tow package on the vehicle and a Reese Dual Cam work just fine.

Highlander to Jeep GC

Tow Sport 16 with Highlander and Equalizer (no WD) and has been fine. Getting 2018 GC, 4X4,tow package, V8 (no air suspension), 20 inch tires,7200 capacity. Going to continue using just Equalizer. Only question is hitch receiver height. Currently Highlander (not loaded) is 17 inches to top of receiver. I know how much loaded in TV and AS as well as wheel size will change heights for both but does anyone know if I might need adjustments or is this not an issue?

Thumbs up

I have a 2018 JGC Trailhawk, Hemi, Towing Package... use it to pull my SOB Crossroads 222RB travel trailer (4800 UVW, 27 feet long). Used to tow with an '07 Tundra 5.7. JGC is so much better at maneuvering the trailer (especially backing up)... and the towing with the JGC transmission is glorious.

I have a good WDH/Anti-sway hitch setup, minimal buffeting on the Interstate, solid as a rock on two lane roads.

Highly recommend this set-up, much preferred over my Tundra rig.
