2011 Ford F250 Diesel - Don't Drive One Unless..

I thought our '09 Ford F250 Super Duty Diesel was a big improvement of the previous generation, which it was. After reading numerous reviews of the new 2011, I should have know better than to venture on down to my Ford dealer for a test drive as I kind of knew how things would end. The '11 is so improved though and in so many ways that I just had to go back the next day and trade mine in.

We are talking very quiet and even more powerful and yes even more comfortable! I just pulled our 27 Cloud 950 miles from Palm Springs to Hurricane, UT and back over 3-days on some family business. All I can say is wow! The '09 was a very good truck. The '11 is a simply awesome truck in so many ways.

The guys that write the reviews don't drive the vehicle every day like I do. Driving it every day the improvements are even more obvious than the good online reviews at all of the car mags.

I brought the new truck home to my wife Sheri who gave me heck for buying it until she road in it. She then said "good move honey, this is so quiet I approve."

With only 750 miles on the truck I averaged just under 13 MPG towing and 15 without. My '09 gained about 2 MPG as it broke in over 2,000 miles. I had 40 to 50 MPH winds on the trip back, and like my '09 this truck was solid, but with even more reserve power and again so much quieter. New engine braking for '11 made the big down hill roads even easier than my '09.

A word of caution. Do not drive this truck unless you are prepared to own it. You will not likely be satisfied until you do.

A final point. I was going to put a Snugtop shell on this truck like my previous one. I choose instead a Rolback G2. I can still carry plenty of gear under cover and for big loads I simply roll back the cover and have the full bed available. I also like the look of my truck without the shell.

I test drove a 2011 Lariat the same day we drove a 2010 King Ranch. You're right, the 2011 is a great truck, but, it was not great enough to beat the deal on the new 2010 King Ranch.

Congrat's on the new truck!!

Congrats on your new baby. We would sure like to see some pictures. Also, is there a new and improved transmission on the 2011?

Thanks for the warning. My 2002 only has 100K miles on it. Just ordered some Bilstein shocks. These plus new tires and I'll be ready to go another 50-60K. Hope to have at least 200k before I trade up for a new one.

Yes the new 2011 has an all new 6 speed automatic. And yes, I'm trying to stay away from any Ford dealer. My 2001 F350 7.3 is still a great truck, but.........help, I'm weakening!!!

Congrats on the new truck. Ford trucks rule!

I just bought a 2010 F-150 and absolutely love it. I think I'm set for a few years before I go looking for another truck.

I have had a 2001 PSD Ford. With 198,000 miles no problems. My 07 has 75,000 miles on her and no problems. What are these problems you hear?

Back to the OP, I have driven the 2011, and yes I want one. They are only offering me 24,000 trade on my 07 Lariat. Thats what I owe. I got her at 3.9% financing, so I'm paying huge on the principle now.Since the 2010 are still on the lots and they are knocking 15,000 off sticker, I understand why they are offering me so little.NADA says trade in should be around the 30,000 mark. Gonna have to wait till this winter, or buy a 2011 in 2012. I can wait. My truck is awesome. I just like NEW things.....

What a sharp truck and AS! Now your AS looks too small behind your BIG truck.

I drove a new F350 dually last week and gotta agree it is quite a truck. The only thing on it that really looks stupid is the rear wheel wells which look like someone had some extras in stock from the 1930's and decided to use them up rather than throw them away!

I have an 08 F450 now, and will make a decision next spring when my 3 year lease is up whether to keep it or get a new one. I leased the 08 since I was unsure about wanting to buy the truck with a new engine in it, which was a wise decision looking back at it now, and unless the 2011's are still getting rave reviews by next spring, I'll probably consider leasing one then as well.

My 2008 will have a lease residual of about $35,000 next spring, while the market value for it will probably be around $25,000. If I can negotiate with Ford Credit or the dealer to buy the truck at $25,000 (or near to its market value) I might consider buying it then at that price, but there's no way I'll buy it for $35,000.

My 08 has been a fantastic truck, except for the fuel economy. I've been getting about 7.3 miles towing (20,000#), and about 11.5 towing a lighter load (6,000#).

John

Sounds like a great truck but where have I heard that before; in 2008,09,10.....Funny that is what my dealer told me; almost the exact words...hell it's only $50,000. Think I'll stick with my 2000 and 20 MPG.

2011 Super Duty

We did make the mistake of test driving a 2011 King Crewcab shortbed last weekend. We had tested a Ram and Silverado the weekend before and were impressed with those two trucks. We were really impressed with the Lariet F-150, so we were leary about looking at diesels again because of the rough ride (we both have back problems). Well, we couldn't believe how smooth the 2011 F-250 was. Plenty of reserve power, sturdy, but not rough at all. Just enough diesel sound...had to roll the window down to hear it at low speeds.

So, we're tempted to re-think things so we can be in a position to move to Airstream and tow a sturdy trailer. The one thing holding us back is the price. They're in the $50s and the new F-150s are in the mid $30-$40s.

Still, you've bought an awesome truck. Good choice!

O.K., I'll admit it. I am a Retro Grouch. They will have to pry my 2000 Excursion 7.3 out of my cold, dead hand because it looks like it will last longer than me.
We like the SUV format and do not like to crawl in the back of a pickup for cargo.
With a crew cab and a long bed, you need an over size permit and a red flag on the back. In a big city, even the Excursion is too big.
We live in Mexico in the winter and new trucks don't like the fuel down here.
I just saved myself 50k ++.

We just bought our 25' Safari and the F-250 Turbo Diesel for the TV. You're right. It is a great TV. Mileage is great!

One question. Is the fuel system closed to the environment? That is, if the vehicle is not going to be used for an extended period, do I need to keep the fuel tank full to prevent aspiration of moisture due to expansion and contraction of the fuel?

Quoting myself,....I bought a 2011 F250 since then.

They are WONDERFUL!!

Best decision I've made in awhile. No regrets. The differences between a 2007 and 2011 are night and day!!

Go DRIVE one, you will see.

Shane - is that long bed or short bed? Looking at placing my order in the next week- don't need the longer bed but want the larger fuel tank......
