Hey guys,

I found the original build sheet and I think the axle ratio is 2.75:1, good highway gears, but not so good for pulling (Hey, Barry, could you find out if Lee still had the 3.55s left?). I'll attach a copy of the build sheet for you guys to look at. I did notice that on Line "D" of the build sheet there is an 'X' under Suspension Packages - Trailer Tow. Any idea what this means? BTW, Barry, apparently this wagon was green when it came off the line, just like your dad's.

Trailer tow package usually means
HD Turn sig flasher
HD Shocks
Larger tires
Larger alternator - if it has AC then there is no difference (In '66 this was 455 amp)
Larger radiator - if it has AC then there is no difference
May be larger stab bar up front and bigger springs

In later years it also had wiring pigtail for trailer lights.

Also know that station wagons typically came equipped with more HD features than all other models.

True and if you worked on the line where the vehicle was made it got some extra attention.

I know a guy who worked for GM on the Pontiac line. He followed the build of his late 60's Pontiac wagon. He had the guys add extra material to the frame to make it extra heavy duty.

Will do Rod. He's away until Monday of next week - we just returned from the same spot - takes me longer to recover from a trip.

That is trick that the wagon was green. We suspect that is why my love of green wagons. While at Pacific Beach we ran into another green vehicle that blew us away and the owner of it insisted we bring the car over to take pics of the two vehicles together. What was even neater was that he was parked in berth 57, the year of our car. I've attached a pic.

I'll get back to you with Lee's info early next week.

That is a sweet set of pictures. I thought you had brought a new rig. I'm glad you're sticking to Airstreams. Yah, if you could talk to Lee and get back to me, that would be sweet! As for my wagon, I'd love just as much if it was green, but my dad's wagon was white with the brown wood trim, so this one reminds me of being a kid.

The hub caps that are on it in this picture, are the original hubcaps from my dad's 1971 Country Squire.

Here are a few more pics of the wagon. I refinished (by hand) a set of 1991 Lincoln LSC 16" mags and put them on. I think they look pretty sweet. I also bought some vintage 'his/hers' Samsonite luggage which you can see on the roof rack. Take a look.

That really is a good looking wagon.

Our '66 had a vinyl or rubber coated canvas "bag carrier" that the luggage fitted into and was itself attached to the rack with straps. A good fit, IIRC, as it took all the space available on the rack. Held quite a lot of suitcases with some soft packing to fill the square corners.

It looks great Rod. You need to bring it to some of the stuff going on in the area this summer. Son's of Norway in June is one, then there is Wenatchee in early August and followed up by Deming Logging Grounds gathering. All great family events and all reasonably close.

I've been working on getting my 69 Chrysler T&C ready for towng. The brakes are going to be totally redone, as will the suspension.
The trans is rebuilt, the engine (440- 350 horse, 480 tourque) will be rebuilt for reliable power. I just had a hitch installed and hooked up for the first time. Have a look

Sweet! Very nice wagon.

The RB (and B) engines are great engines. Light for their size and a real joy to work on.

I had one of these in high school and I wish I had the sense to have kept it. Plenty of power. 1956 Pontiac Star Chief Safari. Kind of a mixed up name.

Well, you could go purchase another Safari wagon

to make up for that mistake you made years ago.

Safari wagons are great TV's. Mind you, I am a tad biased.

what a beautiful tow vehicle !

i just bought a 1972 T&C as a future tow vehicle for my 1969 international, but am in need of a hitch ..
Where did you get the hitch, and what brand is it ?
also, is there any "official" tow capacity documentation ?
(the local authorities want documentation to allow the T&C as a tow vehicle.)

Pulling up yet another old thread, but thought the photos were great! I found this as I was recollecting how I used to borrow my mom's 1968 390 Ford Wagon to tow car trailers with old cars I would repair and sell. It did pretty well other than one time I did not have enough tongue weight and fishtailed off the road! (When I realized I could not ease out of it by accelerating slightly I aimed between two telephone poles and spun completely around in a huge cloud of dust, lots of traffic so I was very lucky).

Digging into the archives here. The topic of towing back in the mid-1960s came up on Facebook recently and I mentioned the conversation to my dad. A couple days later I received a package in the mail from him with perfectly preserved literature and typed correspondence from Plymouth design engineers regarding towing with 1964-1965 Plymouth models. It's a fascinating look at how it was done.
